“The Fourth Avenue Street Fair, recognized as one of the premier community celebrations in the Southwest, is held biannually in the gorgeous Sonoran Desert community of Tucson, Arizona.
We invite you to participate in this 48-year-old tradition which, attracts more than 500,000 guests each year. In addition to over 300 international artisans, we host entertainment stages, children’s activities and tantalizing treats from 40+ food concessionaires. Admission to the festival is free and open to the entire community.

Due to the good weather (70 degrees F), hundreds of people at this winter fair right now, shopping and eating. I listened to two mariachi bands, then ate my comfort food, Japanese ramen (only $5) from the takoyaki booth on E.7th st. near 4th Avenue. So many street musicians, face painters, tarot card readers and lots more Mexican artisan booths (or so it seems) than before. Ongoing till 5 p.m. tonight.
We travel around the country full-time right now with 3 small dogs that weigh 10 lb each. We thought it would be wonderful to go to your street fair yesterday. We have gone to street fairs all around the country and never had an issue with taking our three small dogs, in a stroller by the way, but yesterday even after they let us enter, just a while after we got there the police threw us out. They were harsh about it too. That is a horrible way to treat people, no matter how good your street fair might be.
Yes Donna, dogs aren’t allowed at this 4th Avenue Fair. People have been asking about it for years, but that’s their policy of the 4th Avenue Merchants Assn. Sorry the security police were rude, but that’s Tucson sometimes. I dropped by today and saw 5 dogs on leases walking around, and probably hadn’t been noticed by the police as yet. I did talk to one security guy and he said it has been their policy for years to exclude all dogs except for service/therapy ones.
P.S. Japanese takoyaki booth will be there again this year, with ramen noodles too. I may have to hunt them down (location 4th Avenue/E. 7th St.) as ramen is delicious in a colder December. I missed them at the Tucson Meet Yourself festival, as it was too hot then.
nit-picking here, but… it should be semi-annually, not biannually (which is every two years and i think is spelled ‘biennially’). great fair, though!
Just checked and wiktionary says biannual is 2x a year or semiannual: See https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/biannual. Also checked my hard copy American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language and it says the same thing. Not my words, that paragraph is in quotes from the 4th Avenue Merchants Assn. website.
Not all snowbirds are from the midwest
True it just seems that they are the ones I meet (Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio). But I know there are many snowbirds from Canada, the Northeast, etc. too. Enjoy the fair.
