Check out human beings at The Human Library Project at Himmel Park library

Coexistlogo

Check out real life human beings at Himmel Park branch library, on Sat. April 2, 2016 from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. This is not an April Fools’ joke.  Just use your library card tomorrow at 1035 N. Treat Ave.

“Members of the public will have an opportunity to “check out” a
human “book” in order to have a one-on-one conversation with
that person about that individual’s religious/spiritual/
philosophical beliefs. This program will offer the community a
chance for dialogue, sharing, and learning about other
traditions, belief systems and different ways of thinking about
spirituality.
The organizations represented will include (among others):
Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson, International Society
for Krishna Consciousness, Islamic Center of Tucson, Tucson
Area Wiccan/Pagan Network and Free Thought Arizona.”

Additional people to check out from these groups: the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, the Baha’i, as well as the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Temple Emanu-El, Satanic Temple,  and Church of Scientology. “We tried to invite people from a wide variety of organizations, while highlighting some less familiar belief systems in order to encourage dialogue with a diverse population. Stay tuned for additional updates throughout the week, and we hope to see you this upcoming Saturday.”

Carolyn’s note: I suggested a Buddhist group in Tucson. I’m sure they would be open to more suggestions of knowledgeable humans to literally “check out”.

  1. Lots of library patrons signed up to “check out” these knowledgeable humans. I got there late, but then checked out Evan from the Zen Desert Sangha group (Zen Buddhism), and then David, a Druid (not a Wiccan). Interesting talks and info shared esp. about freedom of religion and tolerance in America, even for the atheists.

  2. Latest addition to this list of human “books” to check out tomorrow – the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints (Mormans). Check it out.
