“After a summer of renovation and expansion, the Tucson Museum of Art will reopen with new galleries, new feature exhibitions, and new selections from the museum’s permanent collection on view. Best of all, admission will be FREE the weekend of Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22! (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days)
Come make art, engage with community partners, and experience more than 20 galleries of world-class art including the new feature exhibitions, Dress Matters: Clothing as Metaphor and Desert Dweller.
Saturday, October 21st

1:00 pm – Curator walk through with Dr. Julie Sasse, Chief Curator and Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art

The evening continues at the Scottish Rite Cathedral with a screening of “House of Z,” a documentary on the life and work of the design Zac Posen, courtesy of Film Fest Tucson. (9 p.m.)

Dropped by for the last hour of today’s open house at newly remodeled TMA — the gift shop is gone, replaced with gallery space of this Dress Matters show with unusual clothing & textiles on display. The Desert Matters exhibit nearby features a lovely video film by Iraqi Sama Alsaibi entitled “Wasl” meaning union –about water, desert, wind, double images. Downstairs are new exhibits with a rare glimpse into TMA’s Asian collection of exquisite Japanese netsuke and Chinese jade. Check it out, free again tomorrow, 10 to 5 p.m.
