Drinking Liberally

All Souls Procession Weekend – Tucson

Saturday, November 5 – Sunday, November 6: All Souls Procession Weekend in Downtown Tucson. We would prefer the Procession be election-free, but we will make no rules (aside from the basic guidelines) about how people choose to participate. See post, The Election & the Procession. The Procession of Little Angels is Saturday, November 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Armory Park, 221 S. 6th Avenue. The park fills with children and families, gathering to paint wings, create paper flowers, get their faces painted, dress in costumes created at our kids’ costuming workshops, and approach grief from a child-friendly, child-driven place. Stories that Soar! and Tucson Circus Arts students team up to perform local children’s stories about death and grief, and as the sun sets, everyone processes around the park. The main procession gathers on Sunday November 6 at 4:00 p.m. at N. 6th Avenue & the underpass gateway stage at 7th Street and 5th Avenue. At 6:30 we will march to the Mercado San Augustin at Linda Avenue west of Congress Street. There are multiple venues at the stage site. Entertainment and food trucks at both staging locations.

97th annual Tucson Veterans Day Parade

Friday, November 11, 11:00 a.m.: 97th annual Tucson Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Tucson. This year’s theme: “Remembering Peal Harbor: 75 Years Later.” Cpl. Maurice A. Storck survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, and is the Grand Marshall of the parade.Parade participants will start assembling downtown at 8 a.m. and traffic restrictions will be in place throughout the day. The parade begins downtown at West Alameda Street and Granada Avenue and heads east on Alameda and turns onto North Stone Avenue. It then heads onto West Franklin Street and participants will continue on North Church Avenue and onto West Sixth Street. From Sixth Street the parade will head south on Granada Avenue and return to the staging point on Alameda Street.
