President Trump considering pardon for Crazy Uncle Joe Arpaio

The Washington Post reports,  Trump says he’s considering pardon for Joe Arpaio:

President Trump told Fox News he is “seriously considering” issuing a pardon for former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was convicted last month of criminal contempt for ignoring a judge’s order to stop detaining people because he merely suspected them of being undocumented immigrants.

Trump told the news outlet during a conversation in Bedminster, N.J., that the pardon could come quickly, perhaps in a matter of days. The news outlet reported the conversation on its website Monday.

“I might do it right away, maybe early this week. I am seriously thinking about it,” Trump said, according to Fox News. He said Arpaio was a “great American patriot” who had “done a lot in the fight against illegal immigration.”

Arpaio was also “America’s most corrupt sheriff” who abused the powers of his office and who demonstrated contempt for the court, traits that Donald Trump shares in common with his friend.

Arpaio told Fox News, “I would accept the pardon because I am 100 percent not guilty.”

Arpaio, 85, the former sheriff of Maricopa County, Ariz., has long been an advocate for Trump and spoke in support of him at the Republican National Convention in July. The men seem to share the same worldview when it comes to illegal immigrants and using harsh tactics against criminals or suspected criminals. Arpaio is well known in part for forcing his inmates to wear pink underwear and sleep outdoors in his Tent City Jail.

Reacting to the prospect that Trump might pardon Arpaio, ACLU Deputy Legal Director Cecillia Wang said, “President Trump would be literally pardoning Joe Arpaio’s flagrant violation of federal court orders that prohibited the illegal detention of Latinos. He would undo a conviction secured by his own career attorneys at the Justice Department. Make no mistake: This would be an official presidential endorsement of racism.”

This is why people have lost faith in our justice system.  Joe Arpaio has a well-connected friend in a position to do him a favor, i.e., to subvert justice as a personal favor to his friend and supporter.

  1. The racism of the GOP is on full display this week.

Poor sad snowflake Joe, he pissed all over the Constitution of the United States of America and the rights of US citizens, and now cries about how mean everyone is to him.

Toughest Sheriff? Conservatives have weird views on what’s actually “tough”.

  2. Maybe some of these bloggers could look into just who Obama pardoned. It’s apart of the record. But it won’t matter. Facts never do to the liberal mind.

  3. “Arpaio was also “America’s most corrupt sheriff” who abused the powers of his office….”

He was only known as that by you people who hated him. You all tried so hard and wasted so many millions of dollars trying to “prove” he was corrupt and failed. And what you considered “abuse” was in the eyes of many more of us simply good police enforcement. You all hated it because it was effective and it stepped on the toes of some of your sacred constituencies.

“…and who demonstrated contempt for the court…”

The only thing you all flung against the wall that stuck…and it only stuck because of the way the judges involved handled it. It was a federal judge who issued the order and that same judge who said he violated the order and referred it to another federal judge who found him guilty. They couldn’t allow a jury into the process because they might not be so impressed with the power and authority of the federal judiciary and not find Arpaio guilty like they wanted. So federal judges were the judge, the jury, and – soon to be – the executioners. Yeah, you got him on one silly misdemeanor out of all the charges you made…what heroes you are.

“Arpaio is well known in part for forcing his inmates to wear pink underwear and sleep outdoors in his Tent City Jail.”

Yeah, the poor babies…pink underwear and sleeping in tents. Which, it turned out, they preffered to being inside the jails. I always wondered how much thought any of you ever gave to the vctims of the criminals who had to wear pink underwear? But I figured that out…You worry about the criminal, not the victim.

“ACLU Deputy Legal Director Cecillia Wang said, “…Make no mistake: This would be an official presidential endorsement of racism.”

Really, Ms. Wang? It strikes me that this whole Arpaio issue is more about protecting criminals who are in this country illegally with judges who consistently find ways to keep law enforcement from detaining, arresting and deporting illegals aliens at every turn. Arpaio was effective in finding them and that pissed off the Obama Administration so an issue was made that some of the people detained were citizens and their rights were violated. Therefore a court order was issued banning ALL enforcement of the laws through Arpaios methods. What is rarely mentioned is how many of these people who were detained often did what they could to be detained in order to make an issue of it because they were aiding and assisting illegal aliens. Another example of hispanic American citizens doing what they can to block imigration laws from being enforced.

“This is why people have lost faith in our justice system.”

Really, AzBM? Or is it just possible that all the efforts made to successfully block the enforcement of immigration laws what has cause people to lose faith in our justice system? Or how about watching 3,000 illegal aliens marching in our streets shouting, “Si se pueda!” while carrying spanish signs and Mexican flags without being touched by law enforcement? Or maybe when Clinton pardoned the Hispanic Terrorists up in New York who actually killed people?

Given the track record of Presidential Pardons by Clinton and Obama, it is laughable that you would complain about Arpaio.

    • You nailed it. I just started getting this blog (endorsed by the Washington Post?). I’ll be leaving now before the infection mutates into something nothing will cure.

  4. Great American patriots follow the law and Constitution and respect the people they serve. But Trump and Arpaio, similar ego maniacs and never ending attention seekers, know nothing about respect for law.

  5. “Make no mistake: This would be an official presidential endorsement of racism.”

Well duuuh! We saw that all weekend as Trump studiously avoided criticizing his Nazi and KKK followers.

Quite frankly I’m kinda surprised he hasn’t pardoned him, then appointed him to head Homeland Security.
