Rep. Martha McSally, Trumpism and ‘America First’

The organization Save My Care says it “is a movement to bring together families, advocates and health care providers to protect the health and financial security of all Americans.”

The group is spending more than $1 million on ads during the congressional recess to urge people to contact their member of Congress to help keep the GOP’s American Health Care Act from becoming law. Rep. Martha McSally targeted for supporting GOP health bill.

Rep. Martha McSally supported the American Health Care Act pushed by House Speaker Paul Ryan and Trump, saying the amended bill “increases choice and access while bringing down health-care costs.” It does not. Not even Republicans are supportive of the American Health Care Act, and the public overall disapproved of the GOP plan by a margin of 56 percent to 17 percent. The public opposed cutting federal funds to Medicaid by an even larger margin — 74 percent to 22 percent. But not Martha McSally, who stands with her man Trump.

Five Thirty Eight’s congressional tracker (updated through April 7) shows McSally voting 100% with the positions of Donald Trump.

It is a hard hitting and apparently effective ad.

So effective, in fact, that the pro-President Trump nonprofit America First Policies launched a $3 million advertising campaign to come to the aid of a dozen House Republicans who publicly backed the GOP plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, including Rep. Martha McSally. Report: Group to give ad boost to Republicans who backed failed health bill:

The Washington Post reports the group, America First Policies, is starting the campaign Monday and it will be split among the following 12 Republicans: Reps. Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Thomas Garrett of Virginia, Tom Graves of Georgia, David Joyce of Ohio, Brian Mast of Florida, Martha McSally of Arizona, Gary Palmer of Alabama, Keith Rothfus of Pennsylvania, David Schweikert of Arizona, Scott Tipton of Colorado and Rob Wittman of Virginia.

The local media routinely falsely portrays Rep. McSally as a mythical moderate Republican. But McSally’s voting record, and the right-wing organizations that have financially supported her over the years are anything but moderate.

McSally has clearly embraced Trumpism, the new American fascism despite her being coy about her support for Trump during last year’s election. “America First” is not a policy, it is a slogan of the America First Committee in 1940, “the isolationist, defeatist, anti-Semitic national organization that urged the United States to appease Adolf Hitler.”

The modern-day Trumpism version of “America First” has now come to the aid of McSally. This is whom she chooses to identify with and to support 100%. This is not what her southern Arizona constituents desire or support. McSally does not represent the interests of the constituents of her district. She is too extreme for her district and she has to go.

  1. Wow, I didn’t know the history behind the America First slogan.

I was also JUST wondering about the two ads being run in district here and who was paying for them. We just met with some McSally staff yesterday to discuss the 10 essential benefits, which she had been poised to strip in the ACHA before the bill was junked. We made sure that they knew that these benefits were important and that we didn’t want to return to the times of expensive “junk” plans.

It’ll be interesting to see what the House comes up with, and what McSally is willing to put her name on. I think it is very apparent to her that a vast majority of her district is NOT in favor of totally dumping the ACA, as Nancy Heiser told me they received thousands of calls that week, and logged every comment.
