Sen. John McCain questions Aqua Buddha and his 12 Disciples for blind opposition to any and all gun safety regulations

According to POLITICO Tiger Beat on the Potomac, 12 Tea-Publicans in the U.S. Senate have now committed to the village idiot Aqua Buddha, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), in a blind filibuster of any and all new gun safety regulations, bill unseen. 12 GOP senators back Rand Paul on gun-control filibuster:

Kentucky Sen. Rand
Paul’s threat to filibuster any new gun restrictions is gathering steam,
as a dozen of his Republican colleagues have now signed onto his plan.

The Kentucky Republican and Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee
(R-Utah) first wrote to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid late last
month to warn him of their intention to try to tie up the Senate if, as
planned, Reid moved forward with legislation that would expand
background checks and attempt to crack down on interstate gun
trafficking.

In addition to Paul, Lee, Cruz, Rubio and Moran, the Republican who have signed the second letter are Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Mike Enzi of Wyoming, Jim Risch and Mike Crapo of Idaho, Dan Coats of Indiana and Pat Roberts of Kansas.

“We will oppose the motion to proceed on any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions,” they write.

To his credit, Arizona Sen. John McCain said Sunday that he doesn't "understand" why his colleagues would do this. McCain: ‘I Don’t Understand’ Why GOP Would Filibuster Gun Legislation:

Arizona Sen. John McCain (R) Sunday became the latest senior
Republican to question the 13 Republicans who have threatened to
filibuster gun legislation they haven’t yet seen.

The blind filibuster threats, originally made by Sens. Mike Lee
(R-UT), Rand Paul (R-KY) and Ted Cruz (R-TX), have already been
criticized by top GOP Sens. Lindsey Graham and Tom Coburn, who “bristled at the idea.”

McCain joined that criticism Sunday morning, telling Face the Nation
host Bob Schieffer that he didn’t understand the filibuster efforts and
that gun law reform legislation should be debated on the Senate floor:

McCAIN: I don’t understand it. The purpose of the
United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people
know where we stand.

SCHIEFFER: So you’d encourage Republicans not to filibuster?

McCAIN: I would not only encourage it, I don’t understand it. What
are we afraid of? […] Why not take it up and amend it and debate? The
American people would profit from it. I don’t understand why United
States senators want to block debate when the leader has said we can
have amendments.

To his discredit, McCain would not endorse the most popular element of gun safety reform — expanding background checks, something he has advocated for in the past. Flashback: John McCain’s pro-gun control past.

UPDATE: A moment of clarity from Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), Top Republican Criticizes Rand Paul For Threatening To Filibuster Gun Bill He Hasn’t Even Seen:

Mr. Coburn bristled at the idea that Mr. Paul would threaten to filibuster a bill before its contents were made final.

Is that about filibustering a bill to protect the Second Amendment, or is that about Rand Paul?” Mr. Coburn said at a town-hall meeting at the Oklahoma Sports Museum in Guthrie, Okla., on Wednesday. “I’ve
done more filibusters than Rand Paul is old,” Mr. Coburn said,
but he
added that he doesn’t announce such moves before he understands the bill.
