Progressive Democrats of America-Tucson is proud to announce the endorsement of:

Each of the candidates completed a questionnaire prepared by PDA Tucson.  The responses were reviewed by PDA members and found to be in strong support of our progressive values. The completed questionnaires are available for review on request to pdatucson@gmail.com

You can find more information about each of the candidates at their websites and you can contact them for information about scheduled house parties and/or candidates forums if you wish to meet them in person and become more familiar with their stance on issues.

Each of them needs our support in volunteer time and/or money. Each of them will move our County, State, and Country in a progressive direction.

An organizational meeting for People Demanding Action Arizona, a statewide organization, will take place on Saturday, July 16, 7:00 pm at Ermanos Craft Beer and Wine Bar, 220 N. 4th Avenue. Everyone is welcome to join the planning to move progressive issues forward in Arizona. The revolution continues.

Jenise Porter was recently chosen by the PDA Tucson Steering Committee to be the new Chapter Coordinator. I will remain an active member of the Steering Committee.

‘The Nation’ Celebrates Its 150 Year Anniversary in Tucson this Weekend (video)

The Nation

‘The Nation’ celebrates its anniversary in Tucson this weekend.

The Nation magazine is 150 years old this year, and Tucson is playing a major role in the celebration.

The Blog for Arizona Calendar has a complete list of The Nation events that are connected to the Tucson Festival of Books.

Two events worth highlighting that are not connected with the Book Festival are the John Nichols presentation at the IBEW Hall tonight and the regional premiere of the award-winning documentary Hot Type: 150 Years of The Nation at The Loft on Sunday night.

PDA/PALF Event March 14

John Nichols

John Nichols of ‘The Nation’ at a previous PDA Tucson event.

PDA Tucson and the Pima Area Labor Federation (PALF) will be hosting their traditional evening with  John Nichols tonight, March 14, at the IBEW Hall. Often it’s difficut to get into Book Festival venues with popular speakers like Nichols. The PDA/PALF event offers a unique opportunity to hear Nichols in a relaxed atmosphere. (And there’f plenty of free parking!) Doors open at 6:30 with finger foods and mingling. Nichols presentation begins at 7 p.m. The event is free, but donations to PDA are greatly appreciated. (Facebook event here.)

Hot Type Regional Premiere March 15

Sunday, March 15 is the regional premiere of Hot Type: 150 Years of The Nation with Oscar-winner Barbara Kopple and The Nation’s John Nichols in person! The screening will be preceded by a reception on The Loft patio, starting at 6 p.m. This reception is FREE with the purchase of a ticket to the film, and will feature free light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. PDA Meeting: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about the Affordable Care Act (and Healthcare Reform)

Medicare409-sig-sm72by Pamela Powers Hannley

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) and healthcare reform, in general, will be the focus of PDA Tucson’s general membership meeting on Thursday, Nov. 14.

Andrea Witte (the Connect the Dots Lady) will present the updated version of “The American Healthcare CrazyQuilt”, which looks at how the US healthcare system evolved into the most expensive system in the world but still leaves millions of people uninsured. She also will discuss the Affordable Care Act.

Dr. Eve Shapiro, local pediatrician and head of PDA Tucson’s universal healthcare issue organizing team, will talk about single-payer, universal healthcare and why that should be our country’s ultimate healthcare reform goal. The ACA is a step in the right direction but not the end of the road.

Concluding the healthcare portion of the program, Michal Goforth, executive director of the Pima County Access Program, will talk about local ACA outreach efforts and local implementation of the new healthcare law.

Rounding out the evening, PDA Tucson Chair Phil Lopes will discuss local and national initiatives of the Progressive Democrats of America.

The Nov. 14 meeting will be held at the Pima County Housing Center, 801 W. Congress St. The entrance faces Congress Street, but parking is on the North and East sides of the building. Doors open at 6 p.m.; program starts at 6:30 p.m.
