Grassroots Community Rally Supporting Refugee Resettlement

“Is this the new “Great America”? It infringes on Tucson’s “Immigrant Friendly” status. It stops/reduces refugee resettlement in America. It blocks refugees from Syria. It bans visitors from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, Yemen. It it is a penstroke away from becoming an executive order. Come help organize a greater voice against unAmerican injustices being instituted without representation. Join in raising voices against human injustice.”

“What Matters will be discussing the relevant Issues of the Day from the Economy to Entertainment to politics to education to the arts with great guests discussing “What Matters” and how it impacts our daily lives.”

Carolyn’s note:  Just found out about a new radio talk show hosted by young Democratic activist Matthew Laos. It’s on KVOI The Voice 1030 AM  on the dial, every Saturday from 5 to 6 p.m.

I just listened to Matt’s two previous shows (Aug. 27 and Sept. 3). He interviewed economists, educators, politicians (i. e. Ward 6 Councilman Steve Kovachik) and even former radio talk show host John C. Scott (former campaign manager for Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall, who recently won her Dem primary on August 30, 2016).

MONDAY, MAY 9 AT 7:30PM | ADMISSION FREE! at Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway Blvd.

Join Tucson City Councilmember Steve Kozachik for this special Tucson Pre-Screening of Under the Gun, followed by a post-screening discussion of Wear Orange Day, a June 2nd nation wide movement drawing attention to the issue of gun safety, hosted by Moms Demand Action Arizona!

In the past few years, a drastic rise in mass shootings has ripped across the United States, compounding an epidemic of gun violence in our country. Despite a growing body count at the hands of guns, and the outpour of shock and outrage that comes with it, our nation has failed to respond with meaningful action. What is keeping the two sides of this debate—those favoring stricter gun control laws and Second Amendment purists like the NRA—from finding common ground?

Filmmaker Stephanie Soechtig and Katie Couric (the team behind Fed Up) join forces again to create a documentary that is scrupulously comprehensive and decidedly fair to both sides of one of the most polarizing issues that is tearing our country apart. Searing and powerful with never-before-seen footage of the shooting in Aurora, Under the Gun gives a human face to a crisis that is costing us in blood and scarring the conscience of a nation.(Dir. by Stephanie Soechtig, 2016, USA, 110 mins., Not Rated)
