Listen to Ward 3 Democratic City Council candidates on Buckmaster Show

If you live in Ward 3 of the City of Tucson and vote Democratic, you will be receiving a ballot for the upcoming primary for the Council seat, being vacated by 3 term Councilwoman Karin Uhlich.  Three Democrats are running — Felicia Chew, a teacher at Mansfeld Middle School; Paul Durham, former Chief of Staff for Ward 6 Councilwoman Nina Trasoff and a retired attorney; Tom Tronsdal, owner of Canyon Fence Company and also an attorney.  They will face off with Independent Gary Watson, employee at NW Fire Dept. in the General Election. (There is no Republican candidate running for this open seat.)

On July 12, all 3 Dems were in studio for a radio forum on the Bill Buckmaster Show (AM 1030 KVOI), airing 12 noon to 1 p.m.  Here’s the broadcast of the forum:

3 years at Blog for Arizona

Three years ago on Feb. 11, 2014 (in the days of the Obama Administration) I joined the good folks here at Blog for Arizona, after more than  four and a half years blogging at the Tucsoncitizen.com, as “Carolyn’s Community”.  You readers have noticed that I have been tirelessly working on posting progressive events on our image Calendar (upper right corner) or online here:

I am passionate about informing our readers about what our non profits and progressive groups and people are doing here in Arizona.  Some activists in town are telling me that we now have the “best political calendar” online.  Many thanks for the praise.

As for elections, only the Tucson City Council races to report on in 2017:  Ward 3 has (so far) 3 Democrats and 1 Libertarian seeking the open seat (with Karin Uhlich retiring),  and no challengers to date in Ward 5 (Richard Fimbres) or Ward 6 (Steve Kozachik).  Both Councilmen are seeking re-election.

We will keep on blogging…esp. now in the early days of the Trump Administration Stay focused and vigilant, and be aware.

Ward 3 Councilmember Karin Uhlich announces she will not seek re-election

Ward 3 Councilmember Karin Uhlich

Ward 3 Councilmember Karin Uhlich

“Dear Tucsonans,
I’ve been asked quite often lately whether I’ll be running for re-election in 2017. I’ve been truthfully answering “I don’t know yet”, on some days “yes I think so”, and on other days “I’m thinking not”. This week I’ve decided that I will not seek re-election in 2017.
I felt it important to let you know and to allow for any folks who might consider running (including perhaps you!) plenty of time to summon courage and to clear 2017 calendars for campaigning.
I will fulfill my next eighteen months of service with sustained energy and focus. And I will keep you posted on our team’s work in Ward 3, across the community and at the Mayor and Council table.
Then, after twelve years in office, I’ll proudly step aside and support the incoming Council Member as she/he enters this fulfilling and privileged role serving the public. Thanks for your ongoing support and feedback during this final stretch for me and my staff!”
Sincerely,
Karin
