Tea-Publican Tyranny: The hostage drama begins

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Where do we go from here now that the tax portion of the so-called "fiscal cliff" austerity crisis is over? As I posted yesterday:

Tea-Publican economic terrorists will take this country hostage again
over the federal debt ceiling, promising to destroy the economy and
America's solvency if America does not acceed to their extortionary
terrorist demands. John McCain: GOP Will Destroy America’s Solvency Unless Entitlements Are Cut Drastically, and John McCain's puppet boy, Little Lindsay Graham: I Will Destroy America's Solvency Unless The Social Security Retirement Age Is Raised.

Hostage

Paul Krugman warns, The Hostage Drama Begins:

The debt ceiling is a much bigger and more dangerous issue, and it looks very much as if Republicans are set to destroy the full faith and credit of the United States if they can’t get their way.

The
key thing to remember — and what the GOP hopes you won’t understand —
is that raising the debt ceiling only empowers the president to spend
money that he’s authorized to spend by Congressional legislation;
nothing more. Conversely, a party that refuses to raise the debt limit
is saying that it’s prepared to inflict vast damage on America in order
to achieve things that it couldn’t achieve through actual legislation —
in effect, that it’s prepared to use vandalism to subvert the
constitutional process.

Still, that’s where they’re going.

Happy New Year!

Reminder: “I think some of our members may have thought the default issue was
a hostage you might take a chance at shooting. Most of us didn't think
that. What we did learn is this — it's a hostage that's worth
ransoming.”
(Mitch McConnell, August 3, 2011)

  1. To me all this talk of a fiscal cliff sounds much the same as the talk I heard during the run up to the two TARP votes. Now as then the real hostages are the American taxpayers. They lost then and they lost now.
