UPDATE: Cash for Clunkers

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

Keith Olbermann takes on Arizona's embarrassment, Sen. John McCain, who wants to filibuster more money for the "cash for clunkers" program because it is a stimulus program that is popular with Americans and is actually working. July's auto sales were best in nearly a year ("In fact, some automakers, dealers and government officials declared an end to the industry slump that nearly claimed the lives of General Motors and Chrysler.")

Well, we can't have that! Republicans need to maintain the economic disaster they caused until the next election so they can blame Democrats for not reversing the economic disaster they caused – "give us another chance!" Cynical bastards.

UPDATE: The House passed this bill last Friday by a lopsided 316 to 109 vote. I have checked the record vote and guess what I discovered? Only 14 Democrats voted against this bill in the House — including our Blue Dog Reps. Gabriel Giffords and Harry Mitchell, and "votes like a Blue Dog" Ann Kirkpatrick. Final Vote Results WTF? Do they want to be like McCain?

  1. Keith Olbermann had another piece about the Blue Dog democrats last night and their obstructionist republicans votes against single payor health care. His advise was VOTE THEM OUT! I agree. I do not feel represented by Gabrielle Giffords. I think her opposition and voting record on the wild horses, her lack of co-sponsorship on HR 503 Equine Cruely Act, single payor health care and the free choice act are a disgrace and I personally want another representative to step forward and represent my values in Congress.

I supported her last Congress because she did support the equine legislation and this congress she backtracked to support the phoney Blue Dogs. The Blue dogs are all conversative on values important to the people like health care, but vote for anything military like the F22 fighter planes the the President threatened to veto and the Senate stripped from the budget.

I have a choice where my voice and check book promote candidates. And this time, it will go toward a new democratic primary candidate who will run against Gabrille Giffords.

  2. I’m plenty cynical about the political process, but the Giffords/Mitchell/Kirkpatrick votes against more money for the C4C bill simply astounds me. How can that even be considered good politics, let alone good policy? Does selling yourself as a fiscal conservative also mean turning yourself into a fiscal ideologue/idiot?

The C4C program works in so many ways. Committing more money to support it is eminently defensible to anyone but the I’ll-never-vote-for-a-Democrat crowd. I’m beginning to feel more than a little ashamed of these Democratic Reps.

  3. In watching Giffords’ voting record lately, I am beginning to suspect that she votes Blue Dog on measures when her vote will not impact the final result. This way she can protect her right flank in her upcoming re-election. That is the only thing that makes sense to me. There was another vote recently on HR 1018 where her vote was counter to past behaviors that fits this model.
