I hope you and your family are staying healthy, safe, and finding at least one thing to enjoy daily.

This email is to share something Chispa Arizona helped launch this week, the Arizona Undocumented Workers Relief Fund (AUWR Fund).

As we are all aware, the COVID-19 epidemic has created significant health and economic hardships for many. Arizona families who are most in need are receiving state and federal assistance, but a significant segment of the population is cut out completely because of their immigration status.

At Chispa Arizona, we believe there is no environmental justice without social justice, so we are one of the founding organizations that are uniting to raise funds to support Arizona’s Undocumented families impacted by COVID-19.

The AUWR Fund www.azfoundation.org/undocumentedworkers was established to raise funds for undocumented working families who support our economy, industries, and communities every day. The fund provides essential support for rent, food, and other critical needs as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

We know undocumented immigrants pay more than their fair share of taxes*, yet these working families are not eligible for unemployment benefits, disaster relief funds, Payroll Protection Programs, or any federal recovery check due to their undocumented status. The hard-working families among us are once again left in the shadows, unfairly isolated from any potential opportunity to participate in what every working family should be eligible to receive.

Chispa Arizona is committed to fight the injustice of the treatment of our immigrant families. We will work to change our state and country so that they acknowledge the essential contribution these workers make in our communities every day. In the immediate need, these hard-working Arizonans need our help now.

*There are approximately 230,000 undocumented immigrants in Arizona. Those families throughout our state and nation pay significant amounts in taxes to local, state, and federal governments. Each year, the IRS estimates that about 6 million undocumented immigrants who serve our friends, neighbors, businesses and communities file individual income tax returns and other organizations believe that number is higher. According to New American Economy, annually undocumented immigrants pay more than $20 billion in federal taxes, and as reported on the 2016 Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy an estimated $11.64 billion in state and local taxes by filing tax returns with their Individual Tax Identification Numbers.

  3. If 230,000 illegal immigrants pay $20 billion in federal taxes alone, then each pays about $87,000 in federal taxes. Who would have guessed!

    • That’s 23K IN AZ, John. The $20 billion is NATIONALLY. Read more carefully and you won’t get so confused.

  4. Yes, Mr. Pashley, let’s get rid of all those “illegals” working in health care and nursing homes and putting their lives on the line for minimum wages. But let’s be sure to stay healthy ourselves.

    • Shhhhhh. don’t tell Norm that Trump employs hundreds of undocumented immigrants at Mar A Lago and his golf courses, or all the trademarks Ivanka has been getting in China, or how Jared Kushner is owned by Qatar and the Saudi’s for saving his building at 666 Fifth Avenue.

  5. Instead of “undocumented”, what you really mean is “illegal”. There is no f***ing way I’ll give to people who don’t belong here and I will not support any politician that does.

      You should save your money for Trump’s next Klan rally in your state, city, whatever. He is very anxious to start having them again.

      • Liza, you took the words right out of my mouth. Perhaps Mr. Pashley can find a red Klan hood with “MAGA” emblazoned on it to proudly wear.

        • Norm has never gone a day in his life when he didn’t have a meal filled with food picked and/or processed by undocumented immigrants.

          He is ignorant of the economics of the food supply or the manipulation of the immigration system by big agriculture companies.

          We can assign blame for his ignorance to a variety of reasons.

          But that hate he feels for other human beings, that’s 100% pure Norm.

          I wonder if he prays to Jesus with that mouth?
