GOP AG’s in court today trying to take health care away from millions of Americans

Evil GOP bastards never stop trying to take health care away from millions of Americans. Today, 20 state attorneys general from red states are in a Texas court that they forum shopped to find a conservative activist judge who may rule in their favor, arguing on specious grounds that the GOP’s tax scam bill this year –  which eliminated the individual mandate – now invalidates the entirety of the Affordable Act aka “Obamacare” (something Rep. Martha McSally (above) and the GOP Congress failed to do by legislation thanks to the late Sen. John McCain).

If these evil GOP bastards were to eventually succeed on this specious argument all the way to the Supreme Court, millions of Americans would lose their health insurance, in particular those with preexisting health conditions who would no longer be protected.

The Los Angeles Times reports, Obamacare returns to court in a new test for the 2010 law and millions who rely on it:

The long national legal war over the Affordable Care Act will resume in a Texas courtroom Wednesday as a federal judge hears arguments in a new lawsuit seeking to wipe out the 2010 law, often called Obamacare.

If successful, the suit — brought by 20 Republican governors and state attorneys general — could upend health coverage for tens of millions of Americans who have come to depend on the law.

Podcast: What You Don’t Know About the Primary Elections

John C. Scott

In this 9/1/18  interview on the John C. Scott Show  broadcast on KVOI 1030 AM, Blog for Arizona writer Larry Bodine reveals his insights about the August 28 Arizona primary races.

Topics include:

  • Who turned out to vote in the primary election? Was it Millennials and Latinos?
  • Astonishingly, 100,000 people voted for a convicted racist crook.
  • Did the GOP or the Democrats turn out in bigger numbers in the primaries?
  • Lea Marquez Peterson had an extremely weak showing against a political nobody. Tucson is a bright spot for Democrats.
  • Why Ann Kirkpatrick’s attack ads were more effective than Matt Heinz’s. And now her support from Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is kicking in.
  • How close will the Kyrsten Sinema vs. Martha McSally race be for US Senate? Guess where McSally’s base of support is, compared with Sinema’s. Who is Sinema’s $1.1 million supporter?
  • The nation is watching the Governor’s race: There was a “no” vote by Republicans against Gov. Ducey, who facing David Garcia’s 6,000 volunteers who knocked on 40,000 doors and contacted 400,000 voters.
  • The Trump effect: what Steve Bannon said.
  • Democrats can take comfort in three of the worst public officials who lost their primaries.

Reality Calls: Kyrsten Sinema May Be the Most Important Vote You Ever Cast

I was hoping a miracle would save me from writing this post.

I so wanted Deedra Abboud to pull off a stunning upset, even though I knew it couldn’t happen.

But reality has arrived. Kyrsten Sinema is the nominee for U.S. Senate of the Democratic Party.

And as soon as I receive my ballot in the mail in October, I’ll be connecting that broken bar next to her name. It’ll be painful. I’ll undoubtedly throw up a little in the back of my mouth as I do it. But there will be no hesitation on my part. Sanity demands no less.

And if you want to maximize our chance of avoiding disaster, you’ll be joining me. Continue reading

Donkey Feed, August 19, 2018

By Michael Bryan

Strap on your feedbag and kick the traces, it’s time for your Donkey Feed.

First, a cool tool: Google has created a database of all the political candidate ads that run on its platform. This is potentially a great tool for researchers, informed citizens, and bloggers like me, turning up recent gems like this ad depicting Kelli Ward as soft on abortion, of all things! And this one claiming she’s soft on terrorism and national defense. Such fun!

Next, some graphical goodness: The odds that control of the House will flip to Democrats. Happy days! But take it with a grain of salt, 538 also gave similar odds to Clinton’s election to the Presidency…

Next, a bad-ass book I think you might like: Hans Rosling, the demographer, physician, co-founder of Medecins Sans Frontiers, and TEDTalk super-stud, has written a book making the case that the world is becoming a better, healthier, and wealthier place, despite your intuitions.

Next, viddy this my droogs: one of the Fox News valkyries thought it would be fun to poke some fun at socialist Denmark. Well, she drew a response from a Danish politician, and it’s a beautiful takedown:

Finally, my standard fundraising pitch for a bit of your filthy lucre:

NRSC asks Trump to endorse McSally, he is noncommittal (so sad!)

POLITICO reported last week that the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) asked President Donald Trump to intervene in the Arizona GOP Senate primary amid rising fears that the GOP will nominate an unelectable candidate and cede the seat to Democrats in November. Republicans ask Trump to intervene in contentious Arizona primary:

During a recent phone call, NRSC Chairman Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) asked the president to endorse GOP Rep. Martha McSally, widely viewed as the establishment favorite in the Aug. 28 primary, according to two senior Republicans familiar with the conversation.

Trump, according to one of the Republicans, was noncommittal and did not say yes or no to the request.

Maybe this is because McSally was noncommittal to Donald Trump in 2016, and Trump never forgets nor forgives those whom he perceives did him wrong. He is a vindictive man. If Trump endorses anyone, I would think it would be his loyal supporter, partner in crime and coconspirator in the Obama birther conspiracy, crazy Uncle Joe Arpaio. Trump already quasi-endorsed Arpaio with his politically motivated pardon of Arpaio. Just make it official.

McSally is facing former state Sen. Kelli Ward and former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, both of whom are running as conservative insurgents. Polls have consistently shown McSally leading in the primary, but Republicans fear that if Ward or Arpaio wins the nomination, it would effectively hand a victory to the expected Democratic nominee, Rep. Kyrsten Sinema.

Neither the White House nor the NRSC would comment.
