Democrats of Greater Tucson (DGT) moving meeting location to Kettle restaurant

New location for DGT Monday luncheon meetings will be the Kettle restaurant at 748 W. Starr Pass Blvd., west of I-10. East 22nd Street turns into W. Starr Pass Blvd. at the I-10, so be aware of this as you drive there.  The Kettle restaurant serves American buffet food, and is on the north side of the street, next to the Quality Inn.  Notice from DGT:

“ATTENTION!

Starting this week DGT will be moving to Kettle Resturant, 748 W Starr Pass Blvd (meeting room is to the west of the front door).
The program will begin at 12:00 pm as usual. Price for buffet lunch is $12, ordering from regular menu also available.”

Change is effective on Monday, May 20 for DGT speaker Dr. Lane Santa Cruz, candidate for the open Ward 1 Council seat. There may be a 4 way Democratic primary race in this ward, with candidates Rob Elias (no relation to District 5 Supervisor Richard Elias), Sami Hamed, Miguel Ortega, and Dr. Santa Cruz. Deadline for nomination petitions is May 29, 5 p.m. The primary will be on August 27, 2019, along with an open seat for the Mayor of Tucson, Ward 2 Council (incumbent Paul Cunningham running for re-election), & an open seat in Ward 4 Council.

We heard that the old DGT lunch location, Dragon’s View restaurant is closing in May, 2019. This will be sad news for my Chinese American friends, who have eaten there over the years.

  1. About 50 Dems tried out this new venue at Kettle restaurant’s westside room. I liked the largeness of the separate room, with windows on the west and south sides. The buffet was ready at 11:30 a.m. and consisted of a small salad bar, with greens, some condiments, peaches, humus & later pita bread. The main courses were mashed potatoes & meat loaf, with green beans. A cheese emnhilada was also there, with saffron yellow rice & fried chicken later. You can also order off the a la carte menu, which several people on our table did — club sandwich, salad, an omelet. The reviews from our table of 5 were so-so, but the owner promises a new buffet menu each week for $12. Try it out & let DGT know what you think.
