Desperate Diva Disses Democrat in Debate Fail

Martha, Martha, Martha … you are such a tool of Newt Gingrich’s GOPAC candidate training program, you just ooze Newt’s nastiness from your pores. And that is why Arizonans rejected you in 2018, and will do so again in 2020.

McSally thought she was being oh so clever or cute in last night’s debate by calling Mark Kelly “counterfeit Kelly” repeatedly – seriously, that’s all you got left in the tank, Martha? To quote a recently revived game show, “You are the biggest loser. Goodbye.”

McSally has an even bigger problem with Republican base voters. Like the apostle Peter disowned Jesus, “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times,” when Sen. Martha McSally of Arizona was pressed over and over again, she would not say whether she was proud of her support of President Donald Trump (video) in her debate against Democratic opponent Mark Kelly.

CNN reports, Arizona Senate debate turns on Trump:

When pressed over and over again, Republican Sen. Martha McSally of Arizona would not say on Tuesday whether she was proud of her support of President Donald Trump in her debate against Democratic opponent Mark Kelly.

“I’m proud that I’m fighting for Arizonans on things like cutting your taxes,” McSally said. “I’m proud to be fighting for Arizona every single day,” she later added.

The response was simpler for Kelly, who called the President’s overall behavior and actions in office “not acceptable.”

McSally’s response underscored her perilous position just four weeks before Election Day, as she tries to woo Trump supporters and independents in a state that appears to have turned on the President.

Here is Five Thirty-Eight on Arizona Senate Polls in October:

The debate touched on the US response to the coronavirus pandemic, health care, the filibuster and the Senate Republican effort to confirm a Supreme Court justice this month, among other issues. But as the country becomes increasingly polarized and partisan, Trump’s standing in Arizona could define the Senate race and sink McSally.

The Arizona race is one of the most competitive in the country [not according to the polls] and crucial to the future control of the chamber. Democrats almost certainly need to defeat McSally to take back the Senate, and she tried to tie Kelly to liberal leaders, saying they would abolish the filibuster and install “the most radical agenda that we’ve seen.” Kelly said he has not yet decided his position on the filibuster.

“My opponent is claiming that he’s not a politician, or not even a Democrat, but that’s counterfeit,” said McSally. “The truth is that he is bought and paid for by Chuck Schumer, whose path to power goes through Arizona.”

Hmmm, I don’t know Martha, most of your ads come from the Senate Leadership Fund, which is run by allies of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the most corrupt and contemptible senator in modern American history. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.

The race has pivoted over health care, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. McSally said on Tuesday that Kelly’s support of a public health care option was “the first step to the government takeover of health care.” Kelly has rejected those attacks, saying in one ad that he “will never vote to eliminate private health insurance.”

On Tuesday, Kelly repeatedly went after McSally’s votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which installed insurance protections for those with preexisting conditions, and reminded viewers than the late Arizona GOP Sen. John McCain voted to protect the health care law during the Republican effort to repeal it. Kelly charged that Republicans were rushing to confirm Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett to get her on the bench in time to rule on a upcoming case on the constitutionality of the ACA. Kelly said McSally “paved the way” for the lawsuit, which he said could undermine the insurance protections for millions of Arizonans.

McSally fired back that she supports insurance protections for those with preexisting conditions [FALSE!] and charged that Kelly wanted to delay the vote on Barrett so Democrats could confirm a “liberal, activist” justice.

But the debate hinged on the actions of the Trump administration.

When asked about its response to the pandemic, Kelly said, “200,000 dead Americans is evidence that … Washington, this administration, and Senator McSally did not do a great job.” He added that hundreds of thousands of Arizonans have lost their jobs “through no fault of their own” and the country needed more financial relief from Congress.

McSally touted that the administration and Congress struck deals on legislation worth trillions of dollars to protect small businesses, and credited Trump with limiting travel from China early on. McSally repeatedly suggested that Kelly was beholden to China due to his participation in US-China forums, and Kelly defended himself by pointing to his military record.

Oh, Martha, you just make this way too easy:

  1. The “deal” Martha is referring to is the CARES Act passed by Congress in March, which has since expired at the end of July. Martha and her Republican colleagues in the Senate have rejected the need for any new pandemic economic stimulus, despite the most significant recession since the Great Depression. On the very same day as her debate, her “Dear Leader” ordered her and Senate Republicans to do nothing. Trump Abruptly Ends Stimulus Talks After Fed Chair Urges Economic Support.

So if you are struggling financially, have lost your job, have lost your employer health insurance, you are facing utilities shutoffs and eviction, and you have had to turn to food banks for food insecurity, you can thank Martha McSally and her Republican colleagues by voting them out of office.

  1. 430,000 People Have Traveled From China to U.S. Since Coronavirus Surfaced (April 2020). That’s one leaky slow boat from China.  More importantly, the strain of COVID-19 that devastated New York and much of America entered the Country from Europe. Studies Show N.Y. Outbreak Originated in Europe (May 2020). Way to keep your eye on the ball!

  2. While GOP hits Kelly over China ties, McSally had investments too: Sen. Martha McSally also had investments tied to Chinese companies.

According to her most recent financial disclosure form, which she filed with the U.S. Senate in August 2019, McSally was invested in mutual funds that invest in Chinese companies or bonds issued by China’s communist government. Among those companies is the technology company Tencent, which invested in Kelly’s World View Enterprises and has become the focal point of GOP attacks against the presumptive Democratic nominee.

McSally had between $18,000 and $95,000 invested in the four mutual funds. Those funds have investments in a handful of of Chinese companies: e-commerce giant Alibaba; entertainment and technology conglomerate Tencent; Ping An Insurance; AIA Group, a Hong Kong-based life insurance company; JD.com, an e-commerce company; NetEase, a technology company; China Construction Bank Corp; China Mengniu Dairy; and Chinese government bonds.

This is all part of the GOP/Trump campaign yellow peril racist campaign against China. The “NRSC issued a 57-page memo urging GOP Senate candidates to attack China for its role in the COVID-19 pandemic, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan. The memo advises candidates not to defend President Donald Trump over his handling of the outbreak, except for his ban on most travel from China to the United States, and instead attack the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese government for covering up the coronavirus outbreak, and attack their Democratic rivals as soft on China.” McSally is a well trained parrot.

At one point, McSally was asked about Trump’s reported comments that American war dead were “losers” and “suckers.”

She said she would not comment on “anonymous sources” but that she has worked with the Trump administration to rebuild the military. Kelly said those comments from the commander in chief “absolutely” concerned him, and said McSally did not defend McCain, who Trump ridiculed for being captured and tortured during the Vietnam War.

McSally responded that she repeatedly asked the President both in private and public settings to stop attacking McCain.

“Quite frankly, it pisses me off when he does it,” she said. “Let’s let him rest in peace.”

Oooh, some more of that “salty talk” from Martha! As Tim Steller of the Arizona Daily Star observed in 2018, Steller’s Friday Notebook: McSally hopes it’s cool to be coarse:

Whether her coarse language is a good thing or a bad thing is for the voters to decide. But probably more important is to keep aware of what positions she’s taking when she makes her off-color comments, and whether the saltiness is being used to cover up the meat of the matter.

Indeed. McSally totally dodged answering that question. Active duty military and veterans should be “pissed” at her.

We won’t have to endure much more from Martha McSally for long:

[E]even Republicans acknowledge that Kelly is one of the Democratic Party’s strongest recruits of 2020. In July, David McIntosh, the president of the Club for Growth, a fiscally conservative group, told CNN that the Democrat is a “rock star candidate.” The Navy captain and NASA astronaut is the husband of former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was shot in the head and nearly killed in 2011 and is now a leader in the movement against gun violence.

McIntosh told CNN that McSally is a “weak” candidate who “doesn’t excite Republicans,” and mentioned that she lost to Sinema in 2018 before being appointed to fill McCain’s seat in 2019.

“Let’s just say she didn’t pull it off last time when she had a weaker opponent,” McIntosh said. “I’m not too optimistic about this time.”

Kelly has led most polls this year, and outraised McSally every financial quarter of the race. Liberal groups have spent or reserved an estimated $88 million to advertise in it, compared to an estimated $62 million for conservative groups, according to Kantar’s Campaign Media Analysis Group.

“Mark Kelly has had a consistent lead in Arizona almost since the day he announced,” J.B. Poersch, the president of the Senate Majority PAC, the top Super PAC for Democrats in Senate races, told CNN. “There hasn’t been much looking back.”

It’s time to seal the deal. Go vote today!

  1. I also watched the whole thing. Martha seemed to have memorized the Senate candidate talking points and kept to that script along with activist liberal judges and constantly harped on the China thing. She avoided hard questions by changing the subject and certainly was ambivalent about her never ending defense of Trump. I guess she is OK with consevative activist judges however. Through it all I wonder if she has ever had her own thoughts ever.

  2. Don’t know if anyone else had this problem: During the debate’s entirety there was a wide vertical green that took up close to a quarter of the screen which resulted in only half of anyone’s face being shown. Not only the candidates but also the moderators. Was this problem isolated to KUAT in Tucson or just me?

From what I saw Captain Kelly was pretty much cool, calm and collected, (appointed) Senator McSally was mindlessly venomous. He answered the questions as best he could while she dodged and spewed smoke.

    • I thought she was shrill. A friend of mine on Facebook said she was frenetic. Someone else said grating which could mean all of the above. Kelly did well, presented his case, and was well composed. My only criticism of him is, while he did refute her Trump Zone-Fox Island-McConnell-Disinfowar talking points, he should have been maybe a little more forceful in calling them the crapola they were.

      • Grating & frenetically shrill. With a touch of mindless venom. Ahhh, that’s the ticket! Agree about the forceful but then wasn’t this his first debate on a statewide stage? After all: “In space no one can hear you debate”.
