The Arizona Democratic Party AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) Dem Caucus is sponsoring this event, to introduce two AAPI candidates to South Arizona. Both are seeking election in the General Election 2020.
Catherine Ripley is half Japanese American. She is running for Pima Community College Governing Bd. District 1 and is an adjunct professor in political science there. She also served as the E.D. of the Pima County Dem Party for a year/half recently. She ran for LD 10 House in the Dem primary in August 2018. The PCC board position is non partisan and a voluntary position for 6 years.
Dr. Ravi is an Indian American family doctor, and soon to be CEO of Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation. This is his first bid for political office, as he is running for one of 3 open seats on the TUSD Governing Board, and he has 3 children with his husband. There are 6 candidates in that race for seats which are non partisan, volunteer, 4 year positions.
