Laughing Liberally Tucson Comedy Showcase



    For the price of a drink or two (non alcoholic too), you can listen and laugh to these male & female  stand-up comedians joke about liberal & conservative politics in America. What a deal.

    Laughing Liberally Tucson started up again in March 2015 at Sky Bar.

    Carolyn Classen
    Carolyn Sugiyama Classen, a life long Democrat, was born & raised in the State of Hawaii, was a Legislative Aide for U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye on Capitol Hill, and practiced law for a while. In Tucson she worked as a tribal staff attorney for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and later was the Interim Executive Director of the now defunct Domestic Violence Commission. In 2008 she became a “My Tucson” guest columnist for the Tucson Citizen newspaper, then continued blogging for for over four and a half years. Her blogsite was entitled “Carolyn’s Community” about community events and some political news, until Gannett Publishing shut down the site on January 31, 2014. She started with Blog for Arizona on Feb. 11, 2014. Part time she has been sitting as a Hearing Officer in Pima County Consolidated Justice Courts Small Claims Division since April, 2005. She is married to University of Arizona Distinguished Professor Albrecht Classen, a native of Germany. They have one son, who lives in Seattle, WA with his wife and daughter. She is also the Editor of the Southern Arizona Japanese Cultural Coalition website, (since Jan. 2013).


    1. Another funny night at Laughing Liberally, with host Phil Gordon, who joked about the new Arizona slogan proposed by Gov. Ducey, with some examples – “AZ is for Where Racist Relics Never die”, “Come for Sunshine, Leave by Self Deportation”, “Education Spending, How Low Can You go?”, plus jokes about several Presidential candidates. Matt Quick excused himself due to being TUSD educated (limited), said he was afraid of White People (though white), that Arizona imports racists, Ted Cruz was “scary – like a crazy youth pastor”, wanted Michelle Obama to be President. Ryan Malco admired Jimmy Carter for the least deaths as President, jokes about teenage white girls on the internet, about Billy Joel &Phil Collins songs, that WWII produced good songs but 9/11 did not, that America needs a Super Hero for President. Headliner African-Am. Eddie Whitehead Jr. from Chicago told the audience how people thought he looked like actor Samuel Jackson, spoke of growing up black in Chicago & being shot 7 times (& accused of leaving the scene of the crime), visiting Egypt, black riots, learning from your kids. 2012 returnee Kurt Derheim claimed to be an Independent Libertarian, a suicidal optimist if things don’t go well, a first Transexual President like 1st Womanh President, campaign promises by Presidential candidates (i.e. “Nobody will die”). Only woman comedian Lauren Wiggins wanted a pants suit from Hillary, tries to ignore TV news, wondered why the Gilbert AZ abstinence only sticker lacked glitter, will move to Canada if Trump is elected. Muslim peace activist Moji Agha stood up to talk about his Circles of Nonviolence & Collaboration, made a few jokes as well about Muslims, calling himself a “goofy Sufi”. Final comedian Alex Kack says he grew up white & poor, that people shouldn’t make fun of the mentally retarded (like Trump and Rick Perry), joked about most of those running for President, Democrat & Republican.
