Carolyn’s note: Running for the Senate in new LD 17 is Mike Nickerson, pastor. Running for the House (2 seats) are Dana Allmond, retired Lt. Colonel from US Army and Brian Radford, retired corrections officer. Radford ran for Pima County Supervisor District 1 in the Democratic Primary in August, 2020.
In Mike’s lifelong work as a pastor, he brought together people with widely different world views to accomplish a common mission. Mike intends to do this for our state senate and help focus on laws that will provide a prosperous future for all Arizonans.
Mike believes that the state senate must focus on solving problems not creating them. They passed divisive bills that restrict voting, deny healthcare, and hurt public education while ignoring issues that are important to the future of all Arizona citizens. Mike wants Arizona to provide high-quality public education and expand economic opportunities for all.
Dana is a mother, retired Army lieutenant colonel, dynamic change agent, and champion for our communities – is a 1994 United States Military Academy graduate who holds dear the West Point Cadet Honor Code: “A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal or tolerate those who do,” the West Point motto: “Duty, Honor, Country,” and the seven Army values: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. At her commissioning, Dana proudly took an oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. She lives by that oath every day. With more than 23 years of active duty service, Dana has had a myriad of assignments at the tactical to strategic levels of the Army.
Dana lives in Marana with her husband Jon Wilson who is a Tucson native and emergency medicine physician assistant. She and Jon have a 18-year old daughter, Sydney and 10-year old triplets: daughter, Ciara, and sons, Aidan and Parker.
Brian is a lifelong Democrat who is running for Arizona State House Representative in District 17. He was born in California, raised in Ohio, and graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science in Spanish. Brian decided to move to Arizona, where he found his love of teaching and worked for the Department of Corrections until his recent retirement. As a former Special Education Teacher’s Assistant and Corrections Officer, Brian saw firsthand the impacts of a poorly run state and local government. He believes we need to properly fund our public schools and our teachers, revitalize our economy, and better protect our veterans and senior populations.
Brian’s decision to run for office is born out of the growing need to improve our lives and that of our children and their children. The aim of his campaign is to bring honest, hard-working family and community needs to the forefront in a forward-thinking manner that best uses the resources we have while conserving resources for our future generations.”
