    1. Dr. Friese spoke (not on gun violence ) but on Arizona K-12 educational funding, as passed in 2000 by Prop. 201 through 2.5% of state land trust. This was not paid by Governor in 2009 to 2012, spurring a lawsuit which the judge ruled that $330 M was owed to the public schools by Arizona. This lawsuit went to arbitration and settled. Gov. Ducey came up with new funding interest plan to increased Constitutional amt. from 2.5% to 6.9%, which AZ Treasurer Jeff DeWit opposed and counterproposed at 5%. Now the issue is going to the voters with Pro. 123 in May, 2016 which Dr. Friese encouraged voters to oppose. He said to also wait till there is a new 2016 State budget in the spring. Questions from audience were about where the other House/Senate Dems are on this issue, status of the education lawsuit, what if Prop. 123 fails, what is stance of AZ Treasurer now, does land trust fund university/community colleges or just 90% to public ed K-12, what was school boards position on lawsuit, any organized opposition to Prop. 123, what was per student funding at 1996 levels before Senator Russell Pearce was recalled. LD 2 State Senator Andrea Dalessandro in attendance today.
