Monday Reading of the National Writers Union

    December 17, 2018 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
    AFSCME/SEIU Union Hall
877 S. Alvernon Way in Tucson

The National Writers Union will be hosting a reading and open mic on Monday, December 17, starting at 6:00 p.m. in Tucson.

This month, Rev. Dr. Robin Hoover will read from his book Creating Humane Borders: a migration ethic. Dr. Hoover is the founder and president emeritus of Humane Borders and the founder and current president of Migrant Status, Inc. in Tucson, Arizona. He has worked with migrants for more than 30 years, and he is the only non-Mexican citizen to receive Mexico’s prestigious National Human Rights Award. This 2016 book covers religion, politics, and migration across the Mexico-US border. It is a social ethics analysis of the border, the humanitarian groups that provide goods and services to save lives of migrants, a brief history of Humane Borders, the technologies that have been employed, interactions with elected officials and public administrators, media, and the special case of the Tohono O’odham Nation.

The open mic is for spoken word only, but is open to all forms of spoken word (fiction, essays, poetry, articles, polemics, etc.). So bring something to read!
