“Solar Supporters Urged To Attend Rally Asking Corporation Commissioners to Reject Tucson Electric Power’s Attempt To Tax The Sun

Solar supporters are being asked to show up in full force Monday, October 23rd at 9am at the corner of Congress and Granada in Tucson to attend a 10am Corporation Commission hearing that will decide the future of solar power in Tucson.

Solar supporters will deliver a petition to the Arizona Corporation Commission signed by thousands of Arizonans, asking that the Commission reject Tucson Electric Power’s attempts to stifle energy choice and competition by imposing fees on rooftop solar customers.

TEP is proposing to hit new solar homeowners with an additional $20 in monthly charges. At the same time, TEP wants to significantly reduce the amount rooftop solar customers are credited for any electricity they send back to the grid.

In part because of public outcry to help defend solar, Arizona Public Service Customers in Phoenix got a much better deal, with a fee of just $6.50 a month.

Why should Tucson get less solar than Phoenix?

An Arizona Corporation Commission hearing on TEP’s proposal is scheduled for October 23rd at 10:00 a.m.The hearing will be held at the Commission’s offices, Room 222, 400 West Congress in Tucson.
Your voice is needed. Community involvement was a key factor in the APS settlement that avoided a solar catastrophe in the Phoenix area. Without your voice, TEP could get a green light to kill rooftop solar.
Before the hearing, solar supporters will gather at 9am at the corner of Congress and Granada. Among them will be former Arizona lawmaker Victoria Steele.
