Sustainable Tucson meeting

Recycling and beyond

Are you concerned about all the waste produced in modern society?  Is “zero waste” a realistic goal?  What can we do otherwise?  Join us for a conversation with Master Recyclers and the head of Zero Waste Tucson.  They will share their insights and tips not only on recycling, reducing, and reusing but also on how to change a system that is built on unsustainable patterns of consumption.   Bring your questions, your quandaries, and your inspirations!

Sherri Ludlam, Environmental Scientist in the Department of Environmental and General Services, will tell us about old and new challenges to Tucson’s Recycling Program, sharing her insights and describing what it all can mean for Zero Waste in Tucson’s future.

Also speaking:  Alex Kosmider, a zero-waste advocate, will reinforce the 5 Rs framework and zero-waste principles, explaining why we need to reduce all kinds of materials output, whether recyclable or not.

POST-PRESENTATIOn, 7:30-8:00 pm:  If you would like to be part of a new action team, Sustainable Tucson invites you to stay to discuss local points of leverage for plastics reduction and other zero-waste strategies.  Points of leverage include:  no-straws-please; reducing single-use bags; and green waste collection by the City.
