    Carolyn Classen
    Carolyn Sugiyama Classen, a life long Democrat, was born & raised in the State of Hawaii, was a Legislative Aide for U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye on Capitol Hill, and practiced law for a while. In Tucson she worked as a tribal staff attorney for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and later was the Interim Executive Director of the now defunct Domestic Violence Commission. In 2008 she became a “My Tucson” guest columnist for the Tucson Citizen newspaper, then continued blogging for Tucsoncitizen.com for over four and a half years. Her blogsite was entitled “Carolyn’s Community” about community events and some political news, until Gannett Publishing shut down the site on January 31, 2014. She started with Blog for Arizona on Feb. 11, 2014. Part time she has been sitting as a Hearing Officer in Pima County Consolidated Justice Courts Small Claims Division since April, 2005. She is married to University of Arizona Distinguished Professor Albrecht Classen, a native of Germany. They have one son, who lives in Seattle, WA with his wife and daughter. She is also the Editor of the Southern Arizona Japanese Cultural Coalition website, www.southernazjapan.org (since Jan. 2013).


    1. About 80 people at this town hall tonight, to hear first from Councilman Paul Cunningham (park improvements, major Eastside corridors, homeless vets, commercial occupancy issues in Ward 2), then City Mgr. Michael Ortega who was proud that he had balanced the budget for the last 2 years, the passage of Prop. 101 at 62.48%, has high staff quality, and hopes to hire a new P &R Director. Then TPD Capt. Frank Greene of Eastside Command spoke about highest property crime & 80% car busts are due to unlocked cars in Ward 2, Eastside command is all area east of Craycroft Rd. Then Interim P & R Director Michael Hayes spoke of planned improvements to Jesse Owens Park (irrigation system), new splash pad at Palo Verde Park pool, new pickle ball courts there as well, plus free pool attendance this summer. Transportation Director Daryl Cole passed out 3 maps and mentioned Prop. 101 and the expected $20 M for roadways, the Broadway/Camino Seco to Houghton plans. Questions from audience were mostly about transportation & roads & traffic signals in Eastside, sidewalks, backwash from private pools, hot rodders, Ft. Lowell pond water (storm run off), cutting branches & shrubs on roadways.
