SUMMARY:"Holidays Without Waste" at Sustainable Tucson meeting
DESCRIPTION:by Carolyn Classen\, blogger \n\n\n\nTuesday\, October 14\, 6:00 pmOn Zoom: <https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83552688300?pwd=zbxgl3mnnuquv0UMskFp5IG57iM3w9.1> “With the start of October\, as the weather starts to cool a bit\, our thoughts are likely to be turning to the coming Fall and Winter holidays\, starting this month with Halloween\, then Thanksgiving\, and then the busy December holiday season. These holidays are a time of joy\, generous sharing and giving\, and gatherings with family and friends. Unfortunately\, they are also a time when we see a distressing increase in waste. Studies show that waste from packaging\, gift giving\, and holiday meals contributes as much as 25% more trash during the period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day than any other time of year. But we can reduce or avoid much of that typical waste\, so we can honor the Earth as well as enjoy the holidays at our celebrations. Join us for our next Sustainability Spotlight program\, “Holidays Without Waste\,” for an overview of why we are often extra wasteful in the holiday season\, why it’s so important to change\, and how we can reduce common holiday waste\, from packaging and gift wrapping to food\, technology\, and clothing waste. Our presenter\, Grace Vickers\, from US PIRG\, will share some of her tips\, and then there will be time for you to share your or your family’s tips and traditions for holiday waste reduction.” \n\n\n\nOur presenter\, Grace Vickers\, is the Zero Waste Campaign Associate with US Public Interest Research Group (PIRG). As an associate with PIRG\, Grace works nationally to eliminate plastic pollution and advocate for progress toward a zero-waste world. During her career\, she has also worked on grassroots campaigns to protect our pollinators and end food waste. A North Carolinian now based in Portland\, Grace enjoys hiking\, mountain biking\, and camping during her free time.

SUMMARY:No Kings National Day of Action rallies in Southern AZ
DESCRIPTION:by Carolyn Classen\, blogger \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Save the date! Numerous local groups are planning to participate in the National No Kings Rally in Tucson. A couple that we know about now are: \n\n\n\nThere are several peaceful demonstrations planned in Tucson: \n\n\n\n\nTucson – North Country Club Road & East Speedway Blvd.  8:30 am – 12:30 pm  Register here.\n\n\n\nTucson – East River Road & North Vía Entrada   8:00-10:00 am.  Register here.\n\n\n\nTucson – El Presidio Plaza – 165 W Alameda Street 8:00-10:00 am. See B4Az calendar.\n\n\n\n\nPlus other rallies in Oro Valley\, Vail\, Green Valley\, Sahuarita listed on www.takeactiontucson.org. \n\n\n\nMore locations are being finalized; check back for updates or go to https://www.nokings.org for nationwide information. \n\n\n\nOur peaceful movement is only getting bigger and stronger. “NO KINGS” is more than just a slogan—it’s the foundation our nation was built upon. Born in the streets\, carried by millions in chants and on posters\, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares\, uniting people across this country to fight dictatorship together. \n\n\n\nThe president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America\, we don’t have kings\, and we won’t back down against chaos\, corruption\, and cruelty. Grow our movement and join us. \n\n\n\nA core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind\, including those legally permitted\, should not be brought to events.”

We will have extra signs; chillin’ chairs; and a letter-writing station for you to write a letter to Ciscomani and deliver it personally to his office! Indivisible Tucson’s Pressure Ciscomani Team and others will have information tables at these events. Please join us to protest Rep. Ciscomani’s voting record and hypocritical messaging. RSVP if you like\, but no need to – just show up any Saturday morning! See you there!” \n\n\n\nCarolyn’s note: CD 6 Congressman Juan Ciscomani was an aide to Republican Governor Doug Ducey before running for Congress. He is in his 2nd term and defeated former LD 10 State Senator Democrat Kirsten Engel twice. He is up for re-election in 2026.
