SUMMARY:International Women’s Day March
DESCRIPTION:by Carolyn Classen\, blogger \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“This 115th International Women’s Day\, Tucson is marching in solidarity for justice\, human dignity\, and hope.  Join us\, as neighbors of all genders\, faiths\, political parties and ethnic heritages unite to peacefully and lawfully send these resounding messages to our leaders:  \n\n\n\nWe demand justice for the survivors of sexual violence\, including accountability for the powerful and wealthy.  We will relentlessly protect ourselves\, our children\, and the survivors.  We will continue building a culture of mutual respect\, support and collaboration between the sexes.  We salute the men who advocate for and with us.  \n\n\n\nWe practice solidarity\, knowing history shows that the unified voice of a mere 3.5% of society results in meaningful change.  Our collective power as women has secured our right to vote\, own bank accounts\, businesses and homes\, and to make decisions about when and if we wish to procreate.  We will not go back.   \n\n\n\nWe defend human dignity.  We demand lawful and humane enforcement of immigration policies for adults and especially for children.  We condemn greed\, and insist on affordable medical treatment and education for all.   \n\n\n\nWe fiercely maintain hope for a brighter future.  While war at times may be necessary for self-preservation\, we denounce the forced acquisition of others’ lands and natural resources\, and the estrangement of our allies.  We prioritize peace\, the advancement of science\, art and technology\, and our continued intellectual development as human beings.   \n\n\n\nJoin us to walk\, stand\, hold signs\, chant\, dance or be silent as you feel called.  Together\, our voices multiply.  We cannot and shall not be intimidated\, paid off\, or suppressed.   \n\n\n\nTucson is OUR city\, Arizona is OUR state and the US is OUR home.  WE ARE the ones we’ve been waiting for. \n\n\n\nWHAT to WEAR: \n\n\n\nGreen for HOPE \n\n\n\nPurple for JUSTICE and DIGNITY \n\n\n\nWhite for SOLIDARITY \n\n\n\nCONDUCTWe will observe all traffic laws and avoid destructive activities\, to model for our leaders the integrity and rationality we demand of them.  We plan to stay out of the street\, and avoid blocking sidewalks and entrances to buildings or driveways.  \n\n\n\nROUTEStart on Congress Street in front of the Federal Building at 2 PM\, march east on Congress\, north on 4th Ave under bridge\, west on 6th St\, south on Stone\, west on Congress back to starting point.”

The book was selected as a finalist in Publishing Triangle’s prestigious Randy Shilts Award\,. and received an honorable mention in the Los Angeles Book festival Awards.” \n\n\n\nhttps://www.mobilize.us/pimadems/event/910282/?fbclid=IwY2xjawQMKNNleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEeFeN7IFE_aPgB4TAhO4nLxTYwMEAd7haBotK6MOhxNs5O2IT80dx_jcuodYo_aem_zs4CXSfQLL3BGGqErpyoZw \n\n\n\nCarolyn’s note: My husband and I heard Jenn speak at the Historic Y on Jan. 25\, 2026. Her story is courageous\, compelling and jarring\, as she said that every woman she knew in the Border Patrol had been raped by other male agents\, as she was (as a lesbian). And yet she lasted 6 years\, was promoted.

SUMMARY:RTA Next special election
DESCRIPTION:by Carolyn Classen\, blogger \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The public is invited to review the Regional Transportation Authority’s $2.67 billion regional transportation plan\, approved by the RTA Board on Aug. 25\, 2025\, for future voter consideration. The final RTA Next plan was completed with input from RTA members and the public gathered through surveys\, open houses\, meetings\, and submitted comments.  \n\n\n\nThe board has set an election date of March 10\, 2026\, when voters in Pima County will have the ultimate say on the plan. \n\n\n\nThe 20-year plan includes five elements: \n\n\n\n\nRoadway (multimodal) Corridor\n\n\n\nArterial Reconstruction\n\n\n\nTransit\n\n\n\nSafety\, ADA and Active Transportation\n\n\n\nEnvironmental\n\n\n\n\nThe RTA is a state-established taxing district within the boundaries of Pima County. The RTA’s current 20-year plan is funded by a half-cent sales tax. Both were approved by voters in 2006. The new plan and funding investment for another 20 years will require voter approval for both to go into effect. \n\n\n\nThe RTA\, which was established in 2004\, has invested more than $1.6 billion in more than 1\,000 transportation improvements across the greater Tucson region.” \n\n\n\n\nRTA Next Final Plan (pdf) – Approved Aug. 25\, 2025\n\n\n\nRTA Next Plan Comment Form\n\n\n\n\nCarolyn’s note: RTA brought changes to this region\, with passage of this original 20 year plan in May\, 2006\, funded by a half cent sales increase. SUMMARY:"Media Matters: Cutting Through the Noise" exhibit opening
DESCRIPTION:by Carolyn Classen\, blogger \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Please join us for the grand opening of TJMHC’s newest exhibition\, Media Matters: Cutting Through the Noise\, on Thursday\, March 12\, at 6:00 p.m. This year’s installment of the Allen & Marianne Langer Contemporary Human Rights Exhibit explores the evolution of media literacy and the challenges of discerning truth in this new digital age. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition aims to equip visitors with the critical thinking skills necessary to navigate an era defined by rapid technological change\, political unrest\, and misinformation. Media Matters offers an introductory explanation of what the media is\, who owns it\, artificial intelligence (AI)\, deepfakes\, and explains how all these issues challenge our ability to truly parse fact from fiction. Through all of this\, Media Matters aims to educate and encourage guests to move from being passive “media consumers” to informed “media citizens.” Additionally\, we hope this exhibit will start to spur meaningful community dialogue and personal introspection on the challenges we face today. As with all that we do here at TJMHC\, we place this contemporary issue into conversation with the lessons of the Holocaust\, a history that paints a clear picture of the dire consequences of unchecked propaganda. \n\n\n\nThe exhibit also serves as a tribute to the lifelong human rights advocacy of Marianne Langer and the memory of her late husband\, Allen. Their commitment to highlighting discrimination and human rights remains the cornerstone of this ever-evolving exhibition. \n\n\n\nThe opening event is free to the public\, in accordance with TJMHC’s mission\, though pre-registration is required.” \n\n\n\nRegistration
