SUMMARY:Eastside Tucson Free America Walkout
DESCRIPTION:by Carolyn Classen\, blogger \n\n\n\n“One year into Trump’s second regime\, we face an escalating fascist threat: raids on our communities\, troops occupying our cities\, attacks on immigrants\, families torn apart\, mass surveillance\, and terror used to keep us silent.  It is time for our communities to escalate as well.  \n\n\n\n2025 was a year of marches that showed our collective strength. And as the threats grow\, our movement must evolve and escalate. Trump and his allies have already made clear that a second term would bring a deeper wave of misogyny\, racism\, xenophobia\, and violence than the first. \n\n\n\nOn January 20\, we call on our communities to organize teams\, call your neighbors and classmates\, and turn your back and walk out on fascism. Host mutual aid planning meetings\, organize public service\, but walk out to block the normal routines of power\, and make the stakes real. This is a protest and a promise.  In the face of fascism\, we will be ungovernable.Important Details:This event will take place in front of the Eastside City Hall/Ward 2 Office located at 7820 E Broadway Blvd. If there are enough people\, we can also move out to cover all four corners of Broadway and Pantano. In any case\, the event will start at the Eastside City Hall/Ward 2 Office. It will last from 3:30-5:30pm. Parking is avalible at the Eastside City Hall and adjacent shopping centers along Broadway and Pantano. For parking on site\, turn in off of Broadway at Camp Bowwow\, and go behind it\, which should take you to the parking lot of the Ward 2 Office. Eastsiders\, let’s show this fascist regime we demand an end to the raids and cruelty! Make sure to bring a friend or relative and share the event on social media before tommorow\, if you can! \n\n\n\n★ We walk away from fascism. ★  \n\n\n\n★ We walk towards a Free America. ★ \n\n\n\n★ We fight for a future that belongs to us all. ★ \n\n\n\n★ Everybody in\, nobody out. ★  \n\n\n\n★ Welcome to the Free America Walkout ★”

SUMMARY:Nationwide Shutdown
DESCRIPTION:by Carolyn Classen\, Blogger \n\n\n\nNational Shutdown: No Work\, No School\, No Shopping\n\n\n\nFRIDAY JAN 30 \n\n\n\nALL DAY \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\nEverywhere \n\n\n\nOrganizer: Somali Student Association at University of Minnesota [National] \n\n\n\n“Visit nationalshutdown.us for more information about this national day of action. \n\n\n\nThe people of the Twin Cities have shown the way for the whole country – to stop ICE’s reign of terror\, we need to SHUT IT DOWN. On Friday\, January 30\, join a nationwide day of no school\, no work and no shopping.  \n\n\n\nThe entire country is shocked and outraged at the brutal killings of Alex Pretti\, Renee Good\, Silverio Villegas González\, and Keith Porter Jr. by federal agents. While Trump and other right wing politicians are slandering them as “terrorists”\, the video evidence makes it clear beyond all doubt: they were gunned down in broad daylight simply for exercising their First Amendment right to protest mass deportation. Every day\, ICE\, Border Patrol and other enforcers of Trump’s racist agenda are going into our communities to kidnap our neighbors and sow fear. It is time for us to all stand up together in a nationwide shutdown and say enough is enough!” \n\n\n\nUPDATE: Shutdown from 2 pm at Tucson Federal Building downtown\, 300 W. Congress St. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Organizer: Defend Tucson! ¡Tucson se Defiende! Coalition \n\n\n\nJoin us in downtown Tucson on January 30\, 2026 for a public\, nonviolent solidarity action as part of the ICE OUT! Nationwide Shutdown. This action is in response to the nationwide shutdown call initiated by Black and Somali student organizations in Minnesota. \n\n\n\nCommunities across the country are taking collective action to demand justice\, accountability\, and an end to ICE violence. \n\n\n\nThis solidarity action will include a community gathering at the Tucson Federal Building\, brief reflections from DTTSD coalition partners and speakers\, music\, a cacerolazo (ka-seh-ro-LA-so) (pot-and-pan sound action) rally and march. All are welcome to attend for any portion of the event. \n\n\n\nBring your presence\, your voice\, and your solidarity. \n\n\n\n★ No work ★ No school ★ No shopping ★ \n\n\n\nCollective action matters. Be visible and be heard.” \n\n\n\n\nCarolyn’s note: I have a doctor’s appt\, then open house at UA Lotus Lounge\, fka APASA. The students and staff will join in ICE Out at 1 pm on UA Mall. I have to drive and use Sun Tran bus. But otherwise\, no work\, school\, or shopping.
