TUCSON MEDICAL CENTER SPONSORS FREE SUN LINK RIDES ON SHOP
LOCAL SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28 (press release)

TUCSON, Ariz. – Save your cash for holiday shopping and ride the Sun Link Tucson Streetcar for free on Shop Local Saturday, November 28.

Tucson Medical Center (TMC) is once again sponsoring a day of free streetcar rides, as it did on July 25, 2015, the first anniversary of the public launch of Sun Link.

“As Tucson’s nonprofit community hospital, Tucson Medical Center understands the importance of supporting local businesses,” said Julia Strange, TMC’s vice president of community benefit. “Shop Local Saturday connects Tucsonans with the products and services available in our own backyard and strengthens our economy by investing and circulating our money here. Sun Link makes our community healthier by reducing air pollution and encouraging walking and riding instead of driving. TMC is proud to partner with Sun Link and support Shop Local Saturday.”

Sun Link connects riders to five unique districts along its 3.9-mile route: the University of Arizona, Main Gate Square, 4th Avenue, Downtown and Mercado San Agustin. Convenient stops allow riders to visit more than 150 shops and 100 eateries, 30 plus bars and clubs, and more than 30 museums and galleries. Motorists can park once and not worry about finding parking again while Sun Link takes them where they want to go. The streetcar runs from 8 a.m. on Saturdays to 2 a.m.

For additional Sun Link information and for trip planning assistance, call the Customer Service Center at (520) 792-9222 (for persons with hearing and speech impairments, call TDD: 520-628-1565).

  1. 4 of us ate dinner out west at Taco Giro on Grande Ave., then drove to the Mercado San Agustin to check out the music, then jumped on Sun Link. We dropped off at Main Gate for some drinks, walked around & then jumped back on Sun Link — all for free, thanks to TMC. Hope other corporations sponsor free rides which were much appreciated by yesterday’s numerous riders.

  2. Folks certainly riding for free today — I was on Sun Link earlier in the morning and some of the cars were filled with riders – elderly, families, newcomers, etc. FREE today till 2 a.m. tomorrow morning. Check it out if you haven’t tried Sun Link yet.

  3. Free rides today on Sun Link, 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sunday. You can use the streetcar to ride the 3.9 mile route, from University of AZ to Mercado San Agustin, stopping along the way in Downtown, 4th Avenue, Main Gate. Enjoy your shopping & eating experiences today.

I also recommend a new show at the UA Museum of Art (just north of the E. 2nd St/Olive Rd. station stop) open 9 to 5 p.m. It’s called “Fires of Change” and it’s a very interesting art show about fire and its power. UAMA address is 1035 N. Oliver Road.
