What is sex? How does someone know they’re ready? Want to know the answers to these questions and more? Join us for the debut of Not Your Usual Bedtime Story, a short film exploring teen sexual health, created by and for youth. Not Your Usual Bedtime Story was developed by five youth leaders who wanted to expose their peers to positive sexuality messages and information not typically covered in high school sex ed. The interview-style film features fictional personas who address numerous sexuality-related questions. The film dispels misconceptions and challenges stereotypes, and therefore, its content and cast portray an impressive diversity of perspectives and identities that anyone can relate to. The free screening event will feature a panel and Q&A session with the youth project leaders, along with tabling and poster displays by local organizations. (This film is a product of the Sex Ed Cinema Project, a program led by the University of Arizona’s Southwest Institute for Research on Women and funded by Unidas of the Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona).
