Downtown Tucson is hopping. Not only because of the arrival of the Sun Link modern streetcar (operating since July 25, 2014), but way before then. I’ve been seeing lots of people riding Sun Link to downtown from the UA, even during the weekdays.
Special free showing of the late Robin Williams in “Dead Poets Society” at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Fox Tucson Theatre, 17 W. Congress St. Tickets on first come first served basis.
Ever since May 2010 every 2nd Saturday evening (and daytime too now) lots has been happening to entertain folks of all ages downtown. There are puppet shows, movies, circus acts, musical groups, dancers, art vendors, etc. all vying for your attention on and around Congress Street downtown.
And several popular food trucks and restaurants are there to satisfy your food cravings, no matter what you prefer. Have you tried Gio Taco’s unusual tacos, or Proper’s British food, or The Hub’s ice cream, or Sushi on a Roll? They’re all located on Congress Street, within easy walking distance of each other.
So check it all out between the Hotel Congress on the east end and the incomparable and beautiful Fox Theatre on the west end.

Wonderful to see a young Robin Williams acting as English teacher John Keating at a prep school in Delaware, teaching his young male students that they “may contribute a verse” in life, to become “inspiring, challenging, free thinkers”. My husband who also writes poetry & literature found the movie “riveting, uplifting and provoking”. Thanks to the Fox Theatre for presenting this to the Tucson community for free. Most of us had seen this movie decades ago and now wanted to see it again since Williams’ suicide. Carpe diem.
