Ted Neeley will discuss the making of the film before the screening and judge our costume contest , and he will also be on hand for a post-film meet & greet! Special merchandise will be available for sale before and after the screening!

Based on the smash-hit concept album and Broadway show written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, the 1973 film adaptation of the classic rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar stars Ted Neeley in his iconic role as Jesus Christ, Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene, and the late greats Carl Anderson and Barry Dennen as Judas Iscariot and Pontius Pilate. This mind-blowing feature, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Norman Jewison (Fiddler on the Roof), tells the story of the final six days in the life of Jesus Christ through the troubled eyes of his exasperated friend Judas Iscariot, who feels that Christ and his fellow apostles may have lost sight of their core mission. Shot entirely on location in Israel, Jesus Christ Superstar features epic sets, unforgettable ’70-era costumes, and of course, an explosive set of songs that range in style from stage to disco to funk to rock – all of which add up to make Jesus Christ Superstar one of the grooviest, most rocking Rock Operas of all-time! (Dir. by Norman Jewison, 1973, USA, 108 mins., Rated G)”

  1. Lots of fun last night at this event with Jesus in person. He had a VIP party first then signed autographs of posters, dvds, albums, etc. The star also helped judge a costume contest of 8 entrants with 3 top prize winners. And it was nostalgia time to listen to all those songs again.

  2. Tonight — one night only, meet JC Superstar Ted Neeley in person. What’s the buzz? He’s already landed and is posting on the Loft’s FB page.

  3. The songs are all ear-worms. Just reading the headline put Superstar in my head on repeat.

It’s a good song, I’m going to let it play. Maybe find some Yvonne Elliman on the interwebs later.

    • Yes, these are classic songs which are lots of earworms. What’s the buzz? Yvonne Elliman was from Hawaii, and this was her big hit movie. Ted Neeley is even posting on FB that he is coming to Tucson.

      • I’m not much for pop music, I don’t recall much about her radio hits, but Elliman sang and toured with Eric Clapton for years as well, and as much as I liked his guitar playing back in the day, I always thought she was the star of those songs.
