Martha McSally could not find one Cancer Survivor in Arizona that did not Work for Her to Appear in her Ad

The Martha McSally Senate Campaign recently put forth what seemed to be a very moving campaign ad highlighting the health care plight of a young woman named Kristen, a mother of two who developed a mass on her brain that required medical treatment.

The ad does not give her last name which is Douglas. More on why that is relevant below.

Please click here to access the AZ Central article that has a link to the video.

During this ordeal, the Douglas family amassed large medical bills and Kristen lost her health insurance.

After treatment and recovery, Mrs. Douglas met Martha McSally, saying this gave her a “new sense of hope…..Martha McSally will work tirelessly to make sure people with preexisting conditions are insured…She’s fighting for what’s right for people with preexisting conditions and make sure everybody has access to health care. Her heart is one of service.”

Very moving ad.

There is one problem with it in addition to the factual history of Senator McSally’s voting record (which contains numerous votes to repeal Obamacare and support for a Republican health care measure that would let insurance companies charge higher premiums for people with preexisting conditions)

Kristen Douglas is not a random Arizona Resident who is a supporter of Martha McSally that wanted to offer her health care testimonial to highlight the Senators campaign season conversion to helping people with preexisting conditions.

She was Martha McSally’s campaign manager in 2014 and her Deputy Chief of Staff from January 2015 to August 2017. She also consulted on McSally’s 2018 Senate campaign.

In all that time, she did not seem to influence then-Representative McSally’s position on repealing Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act for those that do not realize they are one and the same thing)

Somehow, none of that information made it into the ad.

In all of Arizona, Martha McSally could not find one cancer survivor who did not work for her campaign to support her and appear in this ad.

EJ Montini, in a column for AZ Central, called this nondisclosure “shady” and “disingenuous at best”

It could also be called dishonest, misleading, lazy, stupid (she and her team did not think anyone would notice) and a desperate attempt to appeal to the gullible who do not know any better.

This is another example of why Arizona Voters should look at a different option for this Senate Seat when they vote on November 3, 2020.

  1. PEVL (Permanent Early Voting List) is VIP. Since libraries are closed it’s harder to download form.

  2. Unfortunately, Martha McSally has no difficulty accepting her public tax paid premiums and copays for her healthcare through Tricare and she is eligible to use any of the medical services free at any military base, or post since she is a retiree . She has dental, mental health, primary care, surgical care, prescriptions, PT, etc paid for by you and me. It is unconscionable that she enjoys depriving others of the same care she gets.

  3. I knew Kirsten Douglas years ago, I didn’t know she had gotten sick, sorry to hear that. Her relatives, an uncle and aunt of hers, were my neighbors for a long time.

Well, her father is Todd Clodfelter and she comes from a family of die-hard, extreme right-wing Republicans. It was not surprising to me that she ended up working for Martha McSally. I attended her grandfather’s funeral and McSally was there to sing something, Amazing Grace if I remember correctly. That was in August of 2013, a little more than a year before the 2014 midterm election when McSally won the CD2 House seat by a handful of votes. Mrs. Douglas and McSally go back a long ways.

I suspect that Appointed Martha believes that the only thing standing between her and winning the Senate seat is her dismal record on healthcare, voting to deprive tens of millions of Americans of their health insurance by repealing the ACA. And before that House vote took place, she shouted out, “Let’s get this f^^^ing thing done!”

So the job at hand for Appointed Martha is to revise that history and you can bet that Mrs. Douglas is more than happy to help her out.

Good post, David. Keep telling that truth. It might not set us free but it will damn sure let the sleazy, lying, manipulative politicians know that we know they are full of crap.

    • I saw this in an article from August 31, 2017: “Kristen Douglas left her post as deputy chief of staff for Rep. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., on Wednesday. She joined the University of Arizona’s Federal Relations and Congressional Affairs team in D.C..”

If she still holds that position she should be fired for disseminating a bald-faced lie about McSally and healthcare.
