Norma Munoz appointed to Rep. Ruben Gallego’s seat

The Arizona Republic reports today that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has appointed Norma Munoz to fill the vacancy in the LD 27 House seat created when Rep. Ruben Gallego resigned to run for Congress.
Munoz appointed new Arizona representative:

Democrat Norma Munoz was appointed Monday to fill the seat in Legislative District 27 that was vacated when former Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Phoenix, resigned to run for Congress.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved her appointment after Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox recommended Munoz for the seat.

Munoz is a longtime Roosevelt School District board member and its current president. She is a retiree who previously worked as training coordinator for the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office and as an admin assistant at the South Mountain Justice Court.

Munoz will be sworn in Monday, and will start her new job immediately by voting on the state budget proposal being deliberated by the House Monday afternoon.

“I’m excited to get going,” she said.

Be careful what you wish for, as they say. Nine budget bills on your first day . . . wow!

The other two finalists were Rebecca Rios, a former state lawmaker, and Reginald Bolding, director of public partnership at Teach For America in Phoenix.
