22nd Annual El Día de San Juan Fiesta

Monday, June 24, 6:00 p.m.: 22nd Annual El Día de San Juan Fiesta, Mercado San Agustin Annex, 267 S. Avenida del Convento, Tucson, across the street from Mercado San Agustin. The event will start with the launching of the Santa Cruz River Heritage Project in Barrio Santa Cruz, then go on to the traditional procession through Barrio Sin Nombre and end with a big Fiesta at the MSA Annex. This celebration will feature live music, food, arts & crafts vendors, games, activities for children, and more! El Día de San Juan Fiesta is a traditional family friendly Westside cultural celebration that is free and open to public. The celebration will start at 5PM with the official launching of the Santa Cruz River Heritage Project. This project will reintroduce a ribbon of flowing water to the Santa Cruz River to revive the natural landscape and support the return of endangered wildlife. Over time this will offer pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians an enhanced historical and cultural experience when traveling along the Santa Cruz. Following the release of water into the river, a traditional procession with the antique statue of San Juan Bautista will begin at 6PM outside the Mission Gardens. Prayers from several cultural traditions will be offered. The procession will go through Barrio Sin Nombre before arriving at the Mercado San Agustin Annex. The procession will travel onto the Annex where the Fiesta will go into full swing at 7PM. There will be entertainment, live music, piñatas, local food and crafts vendors, family activities and more. In keeping with the theme of the monsoon season and renewal, free water will be provided by Tucson Water to all Fiesta attendees. This year’s event is organized by El Dia De San Juan Coalition and facilitated by the offices of Councilor Regina Romero and Chairman Richard Elias. Parking is available in the lot directly in front of and behind the Mercado.
