The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission reported yesterday that in the Legislature's lawsuit (CV12-1211-PHX-PGR) challenging the right of the PEOPLE of Arizona, by way of the AIRC, to draw the lines for choosing their own Congressional representatives, the three-judge federal court panel set a hearing for January 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., to hear oral arguments on pending motions.
Those motions currently at issue are the AIRC motion to dismiss the case and the Legislature's motion for preliminary and/or permanent injunction barring the 2014 use of the Congressional map adopted by the AIRC in early 2012.
AIRC staff also indicated the court set a deadline of January 8 for responses to theamicus brief filed earlier this month supporting defendant AIRC and its motion to dismiss.
The January 24 hearing will be conducted at the Sandra Day O'Connor Federal Courthouse at 401 W. Washington St., Phoenix.
