Step Up, Speak Out, End Bullying: PSA Showcase and Awards Event

The Fund for Civility, Respect and Understanding presents the third-annual PSA showcase to end bullying!
Highlighting student-produced, 30-second public service announcements based on the theme “I Take Care of My Community”, The End of Bullying Task Force of the Fund for Civility, Respect and Understanding, along with the Pima County Attorney’s Office, Cox Communications, and the Ben’s Bells Project invite the community to attend and watch solutions to bullying through the video art of students.
Admission is free and there will be free popcorn, water and T-shirts for the first 300 youth in attendance. Following the film showcase, awards will be presented to age-based categories. This year’s showcase will also feature live music from the Sam Hughes Chorus, a presentation from the University of Arizona’s Crossroads Collaborative on how bullying effects parents and CODAC Behavioral Health sharing their bullying prevention work. There will also be a raffle for an iPad mini courtesy of Cox Communications (you must be present to win this prize.)
Carolyn’s note: I’ve attended both of the first two showcases and was so impressed by the PSA videos made my elementary, middle and high school students. You will be amazed what ingenious ideas students think of to solve bullying issues at school, which still is a serious problem especially for LGBTQ youth.
Intentinal kindness and other solutions to bullying were shown in the PSA videos created by these students. Sam Hughes Elem. Choir sang 3 songs, “Can’t Buy Me Love”, “Stand by Me” and “Let it Grow”, all appropriate for this theme. Joseph Blair announced the winners from 60 entries, and City High School won the high school grand prize. Congrats all, check the website later for more info.
