LD 10 Dems: New Year, New Board, New Representatives, New Goals

Jan. 16, 6 to 8 p.m.
Unitarian Universalist Church, Goddard Hall
4831 E. 22nd St. Tucson (east of Swan Rd.)
“Your new LD10 Board has been hard at work designing bold and innovative strategies to best reach the goals elected us to reach. Come to the January meeting and find out where you fit in, and how we all support our new (and returning) LD10 Legislators in accomplishing some of those goals at the State level. That includes signing up for the Arizona Legislature Request to Speak system so you can comment on pending legislation!”
Carolyn’s note:  LD 10 is represented in State Senate by incumbent David Bradley, and in the State House with incumbent Kirsten Engel and newcomer Domingo DeGrazia (both attorneys).

Happy Thanksgiving 2018

Well, it seems that Arizona Democrats and progressives have a lot to be happy and thankful for this Thanksgiving 2018:

First Democratic woman U.S. Senator Krysten Sinema

three other Democrats won statewide offices:  Sec. of State Katie Hobbs, Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman, and back on the Corporation Commission  — Sandra Kennedy.

Here in Pima County, Democrats took back a House seat in LD 10 with attorney Domingo DeGrazia beating incumbent Republican Todd Clodfelter. And in CD 2, former CD 1 Congresswoman Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick defeated Republican challenger Lea Marquez Peterson to take back that seat as well. 5 of 9 Arizona Congressmembers are now Democrats.

But on a personal note, today being Thanksgiving Day, celebrate with your friends and family and think about what else you have to be grateful for.  I usually say I appreciate good health and having a supportive husband– but this year, most of all the birth of our lovely granddaughter Sophie.

Happy Thanksgiving to our BFAZ readers and supporters! And if you feel generous and so inclined, please donate to Blog for Arizona:

Domingo DeGrazia, LD10 House Candidate, Vows to Improve Child Welfare

Democrat Domingo DeGrazia is a multi-faceted, charismatic and passionate candidate who is taking on Todd Clodfelter in LD10.  He describes his life’s work in terms of helping kids and families as a child welfare advocate in the legal system. Frustrations with that system have finally driven him into politics, so he can try writing the laws instead of contending with them. He is also the son of artist Ted DeGrazia of the Gallery of the Sun – perhaps why he took up the guitar.

Domingo DeGrazia may be a first-time politician, but he is a dead serious one.

“I come from working for families against the state of Arizona, going up against the attorney general.  I know what it’s like to be in a fight against an opponent that has more resources, dug in harder. So tell me I’m walking into a fight where I’m in the minority working for the little guy, I’m completely ok with that.  That’s what I do.”

This is a good mindset for someone running for the Arizona legislature.

DeGrazia has seen firsthand the pain caused by the budget cuts made in 2008 to the child welfare system. He’s fought cases for years as a trial attorney, then moved into appellate law to try to find a bigger lever for change.  Then 2016 happened. And he decided the only thing to do now, was to run for the Arizona legislature.
