There aren’t many contested primary races in the Southern Arizona legislative districts this year. The LD 3 Senate race is contested in the Democratic primary, with challenger Sal Baldenegro going up against incumbent LD 3 State Senator Olivia Cajero Bedford. Baldenegro is a community activist who works as a Digial Media Specialist/boys soccer coach at Desert View High School. In 2012 his attorney wife Wenona Benally Baldenegro ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Congress in the Democratic primary in CD 1. Cajero Bedord has served in the State House and State Senate for 12 years. Both her parents Rep. Bernardo “Nayo” Cajero and Rep. Carmen Cajero served in the State House as well (respectively 5 and 14 years).
