Arizona election workers have More than 111,000 Ariz. ballots yet to be tallied, including 85,618 in Maricopa County:

Friday was the deadline for counties to complete their work, but Maricopa and
Pima counties sought and received more time from the Arizona Secretary
of State's Office
.

The other counties have finished counting.

Arizona election officials have come under fire from the American Civil Liberties Union, Latino groups, Democrats and others for long lines and confusion at the polls and what critics believe is an inordinate number of provisional ballots.

Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell said she anticipated completion on Wednesday.

Pima County has said it expects to be done "sometime" this week. [Way to make a commitment.]

Several races still remained too close to call as the counting continued:

LD 28 House race in Maricopa County between Democratic Rep. Eric Meyer and Republican Rep. Amanda Reeve.

Proposition 118, which proposed a new formula for sending money from Arizona's trust-land endowment to 13 beneficiaries, most of which are public schools.

And the City of Tucson's road bond measure, Prop. 409, is still not decided.
