Tis The Season: I’ll Be Home For Christmas

My father's favorite Christmas song was "I'll be home for Christmas," sung by Bing Crosby. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, island hopping across the Pacific Theater. For my father, and millions of men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, "I'll be home for Christmas" was deeply personal and spoke to their desires for the war to end and to return home to their families, especially at Christmas time.

In 1943 “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” joined “White Christmas,” also sung by Bing Crosby, as one of America’s most popular holiday songs. It was a favorite requested song by military personnel during World War II. Bing Crosby received special recognition for his recording accomplishing much for military morale.

My father passed away in 2009, but I will always remember him singing "I'll be home for Christmas" each Christmas season. This is for you Dad. Merry Christmas.
