SenatePOLITICO Tiger Beat on the Potomac has a breakdown of the U.S. Senate race winners. Democrats had several  senators retire this year. In all but one case in Michigan, they were replaced by Republicans. 2014 Election Results Senate: Map by State.

Alabama: Jeff Sessions (R) incumbent.

Alaska: Dan Sullivan (R) leads incumbent Mark Begich (D), 49% to 45.3%. Alaska takes a couple of weeks to count, the race is not called.

Arkansas: Tom Cotton (R) defeated incumbent Mark Pryor (D).

Colorado: Cory Gardner (R) defeated incumbent Mark Udall (D).

Delaware: Chris Coons (D) incumbent.

Georgia: David Perdue (R) will succeed Saxby Chamblis (R).

Hawaii: Brian Schatz (D), appointed to succeed Daniel Inouye in 2012, wins special eelction.

Idaho: James Risch (R) incumbent.

Illinois: Dick Durbin (D) incumbent.

Iowa: Joni Ernst (R) succeeds Tom Harkin (D).

Kansas: Pat Roberts (R) incumbent.

Kentucky: Mitch McConnell (R) incumbent.

Louisiana: Incumbent Mary Landrieu (D) and Bill Cassidy (R) are headed for a runoff election in early December. No relief from campaign ads in the bayou!

Maine: Susan Collins (R) incumbent.

Massachusetts: Ed Markey (D) incumbent.

Michigan: Gary Peters (D) will succeed Carl Levin (D).

Minnesota: Al Franken (D) incumbent.

Mississippi: Thad Cochran (R) incumbent.

Montana: Steve Daines (R) succeeds Max Baucus (D).

Nebraska: Ben Sasse (R) succeeds Mike Johanns (R).

New Hampshire: Jeanne Shaheen (D) incumbent.

New Jersey: Cory Booker (D) incumbent.

New Mexico: Tom Udall (D) incumbent.

North Carolina: Tom Tillis (R) defeated incumbent Kay Hagan (D).

Oklahoma: James Inhofe (R) incumbent. James Lankford (R) wins special election to succeed Tom Coburn (R).

Oregon: Jeff Merkley (D) incumbent.

Rhode Island: Jack Reed (D) incumbent.

South Carolina: Lindsey Graham (R) incumbent. Tim Scott (R), appointed to fill seat of Jim DeMint (R), wins special election.

South Dakota: Mike Rounds (R) succeeds Tim Johnson (D).

Tennessee: Lamar Alexander (R) incumbent.

Texas: John Cornyn (R) incumbent.

Virginia: Incumbent Mark Warner (D) narrowly leads Ed Gillespie (R). The race has not been called.

West Virginia: Shelley Moore Capito (R) succeeds Jay Rockefeller (D).

Wyoming: Mike Enzi (R) incumbent.

  1. Why should the incoming Senate confirm Obama’s Judge nominees if his own Party wouldn’t do it? Regardless of who these nominees are, if Harry Reid couldn’t bother, why should Mitch McConnell?

    As far as Senator Udall reading the CIA report into the Congressional Record: That would be an excellent way to demonstrate why it was good to displace the Democrats from running anything. Such a childish and immature gesture acted out in a fit of pique would leave a lasting image for 2016.

  2. If Senate Democrats have any decency, they will stay in session this year to confirm all the vacant federal judges. There are currently over 60 vacancies on the federal court, and Obama has nominated 32. The senate now has the ability to confirm judges with a majority vote, so there is no reason not to stay in session and get this done.
    The other major issue would be to have outgoing Senator Mark Udall from Colorado read into the congressional record the CIA report. He has the report as a member of the Intelligence Committee and also has the legal right to do this. It was done by Senator Mike Gravel from Alaska with the Pentagon Papers in the 70’s.
