“Cinema La Placita, the downtown outdoor movie series that has become a summertime tradition is joining with the Tucson Museum of Art to bring its summertime outdoor series to the plaza of TMA.

The move to the Tucson Museum of Art will bring a number of benefits to the event, including the dining at nearby Cafe a la Cart, food trucks and beer and wine available for sale to enjoy during the movie.
Last summer, following news that La Placita Village would be facing demolition as part of its revitalization, Cinema La Placita moved from its longtime location in La Placita Village to the courtyard of the historic Pima County Courthouse.
The historic courthouse, however, began a two-year restoration project the day after Cinema La Placita wrapped up its season last August.
“The Tucson Museum of Art reached out to me at just the right time,” said Erika O’Dowd, director of Cinema La Placita. “I couldn’t be more excited about this upcoming season in their beautiful plaza.”
The outdoor film series will be held in the Plaza of the Pioneers, outside the Tucson Museum of Art. Dinner from Cafe a la Cart will be available, and beer and wine will be available for sale.

The May 2017 schedule is as follows:

May 4 – Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962) Starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.

May 11 – Thelma and Louise (1991) Starring Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, Harvey Keitel, Brad Pitt, and Michael Madsen.

May 18 – Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) Starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Katherine Ross.

May 25 – Some Like it Hot (1959) Starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe.

As always, since the film series began 18 years ago, admission is $3, and popcorn is free! Parking is available in the Tucson Museum of Art parking lot, as well as ample street parking in the surrounding area. Street parking is free after 5pm.
Since May 2000, Cinema La Placita has been showing classic movies outdoors in downtown Tucson. Chairs are provided, Cafe a la Cart is open for your dining pleasure. Ample nearby street parking is availble. Smoking is not permitted. Alcohol is not permitted except by purchase. You are welcome to bring a picnic dinner.
Chairs are provided, and moviegoers are invited to bring their own chairs for sitting on the plaza. Fare from Café a la Cart rounds out the evening experience for movie goers at the new location. Alcohol is not permitted except by purchase. Abundant street parking is available.
Since 2000, Cinema La Placita has been screening classic films in downtown, charging only $3 per person admission, which includes popcorn.”
