Has it been 7 years since I first joined the good folks here at Blog for Arizona? It was Feb. 11, 2014 and here it is, seven years later. A year ago we were all frenzied and working overtime, aiming for the Democratic primaries to select our new leader, to challenge the incumbent Republican US President. Our work was rewarding with the election of former VP Joe Biden and former US Senator Kamala Harris, to be our current President/Vice President.
What a year it has been since 2020 to now, with the global pandemic starting up in March, followed by the primaries and then the General Election. And Donald Trump would not concede till last month, following the riot at the US Capitol, and his 2nd impeachment by the US House. He had previously been impeached (but not removed) in December 2019.
And on a personal note, I was one of those who had to undergo an “elective” surgery during this year (in May 2020) and I survived, but some did not, including a friend of mine who just died due to COVID-19. She went in a hospital in Tucson for shoulder surgery in mid-December, somehow got covid and died on January 12, after being unconscious on a ventilator for weeks. This disease is more deadly than we imagined. And politician/former TUSD board member Michel Hicks died from COVID-19 a day later. He was 62 years old.
Let’s move on and heal as President Joe Biden has spoken of, and let’s continue to be vigilant for Democracy in America. I’m proud to have been part of the peaceful (somewhat) transition from Trump to Biden.
Let us now work together in 2021 to elect the 3 City of Tucson Councilmembers in Ward 3, 5, and 6. And move on into the state and federal elections of 2022. Redistricting of the maps will be the focus of the next year or so, based on new data from the 2020 Census.
Celebrate my 7 years with me today. There’s still a lot of work to be done, and check out the progressive events on our calendar, which has become my primary work of updating daily at this blogsite: https://blogforarizona.net/events/.

Seven years, that is so impressive! What a service for the community. I am proud of you!
Thank you very much. It is a lot of dedicated, hard work to be so vigilant about politics in Arizona, but now a purple state.
Happy Seven Year Anniversary, Carolyn, and thank you for all of your hard work.
The COVID numbers are staggering. I remember when we passed 58K deaths we said it was worse than Vietnam. Now it appears the number of deaths will be more comparable to the Civil War before everyone is vaccinated.
It’s a very uncertain future and I think the Trump years and the pandemic have changed the country in some fundamental ways. But President Biden said something in his inaugural address that I believe is still true, that there have always been enough of us to move forward. Basically an acknowledgement that we have always been divided, but so far, the American Experiment lives on.
I’m sorry about your friend. These stories have become all too common in these times. Most of us never imagined this, and I guess that’s part of the problem.
Stay well.
Thanks Liza. And I appreciate your sympathy over my friend who did not have to die of COVID, after her elective surgery. Yes, our American democracy will continue forward, maybe even stronger and better.
Thank you for your great work. You help to keep us informed in a rapidly changing world.
Thanks Caroline for your kind words. Keeping up with information and events in this 2021 internet world is tough. I do try my best.
