Twenty Democrats are sponsors of HB2630. It may be the shortest bill I've ever read:
AN ACT
REPEALING SECTIONS 15-111 AND 15-112, ARIZONA REVISED STATUTES; RELATING TO SCHOOL CURRICULUM.
Translation: It gets rid of the vile HB2281 whose intent is to end TUSD's Ethnic Studies.
All 20 Dems deserve credit for putting their names to this bill, so here they are, in alphabetical order:
Representives: Eddie Ableser, Ben Arredondo, Chad Campbell,Tom Chabin, Steve Farley, Ruben Gallego, Sally Ann Gonzales, Albert Hale, Matt Heinz, Katie Hobbs, Debbie McCune Davis, Catherine Miranda, Richard Miranda, Daniel Patterson, Marcario Saldate, Anna Tovar and Bruce Wheeler.
Senators: Linda Lopez, Olivia Cajero Bedford and Steve Gallardo.
Hat tip to Three Sonorans for his post on the bill. That's how I found out about it.
This is definitely a newsworthy item, especially in Tucson. If Howard Fischer doesn't decide to write an article about the bill, the Star should get one of its reporters to cover it — the TV news teams as well — since they've all covered the Ethnic Studies story extensively. Even if the bill doesn't get a hearing in the Republican controlled legislature — especially if it doesn't get a hearing — the media has a responsibility to let the people of Tucson know the bill has been proposed.
