All schools are given AZ Learns letter grades by the state. Schools' reputations live and die by those stats. So the least the AZ Dept of Ed can do is get it right.
Looks like the ADE screwed up the school grades by using the formula that's only supposed to be used for "small schools" for all schools, ignoring the other three categories (Regular schools, K-2 schools and alternative ed schools). They say they're in the process of recalculating the grades.
Huppenthal's ADE: The Gang That Can't Grade Straight. Can't really blame Hupp, though. He's never been a teacher, so grading isn't really his thing.
