Arizona Democratic Reaction to Israel’s Attack on Iran’s Nuclear Program

Last night, Israel attacked Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure, eliminating several leading Iranian nuclear scientists and commanders of the Revolutionary Guard.

They also killed the main Iranian negotiator charged with negotiating a new nuclear deal with the United States.

Iran has retaliated, hitting Israelis sites like Tel Aviv and, no surprise, withdrawn from talks with the United States.

Make no mistake. Iran, a repressive sectarian regime that kills innocent women and their supporting protestors if they are nor properly veiled, which was recently found to be in breach of its nuclear non proliferation obligations, can not not allowed to develop nuclear weapons and delivery technology that can be, by them or their surrogates, used on allied positions.

That said, people should remember that Donald Trump and Benjamin Nethanyahu created this current geopolitical mess by creating the false narrative of Iranian false compliance that enabled the Liar and Felon in Chief to withdraw from the five power Obama era Iran Nuclear Deal in the first place.

That these two countries are now helmed by these two self serving/centered pathological liars, criminals, and fascists, makes one rightly question how this exploding conflict will be handled.

Neither of them, based on their past domestic and international performances, can be trusted to do the right thing. Hopefully, there are still competent military figures and statesmen in the American and Israeli’s Governments who have not been purged yet, that will be able to steer this situation competently and prepare for potential Iranian sponsored terrorist reprisals.

Hopefully.

I miss Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton. I miss Yihtzak Rabin and Shimon Peres.

Arizona Democratic Reaction to the Israeli attack on the Iranian military infrastructure has been fairly nuanced.

Representative Yassamin Ansari wrote:

Representative Greg Stanton posted:

“I’m closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East. I’ve spoken with Israeli Consul General Bachar and have requested more information about the intelligence that led to this preemptive action and its timing. I will continue to push for de-escalation and long-term stability in the region.

The U.S. must stand firm in support of Israel’s sovereign right to defend itself against existential threats, especially in the face of Iran’s increasing nuclear capabilities.

Congress and the Trump Administration must work together to protect U.S. personnel, civilians, and assets in the region. Any attack on the United States will not go unanswered.”

Senator Mark Kelly issued a statement that read:

It’s unacceptable for Iran to have a nuclear weapon. President Trump killing the Iran nuclear agreement accelerated Iran’s development towards a bomb. Israel has a right to defend itself, but my hope has been that another agreement could be reached.

While no one should grieve the death of Iranian commanders who have directed terrorism and killed innocent people, this is a dangerous moment and I am concerned about escalation in the region that could endanger American citizens, troops, and our interests. As we support Israel in protecting their people from Iran’s response, everyone needs to be focused on de-escalation.”

  1. Oh please with the garbage “Israel has a right to defend itself” rhetoric. European Jews invaded what was the lands of the Palestianan peoples and has beern attacking and destroying their homes, businesses and infrastructure for years. October 7 was outrageous but not spurprising since the corrupt Zionists of Israel have been comitting genocide for decades. Now with the arms supplied by us hard working American taxpayers with the help of US intel and the DOD, we are in a proxy war once again. We will never learn until it happens to us.

  2. We must reject the false binary of “support Israel” vs. “support diplomacy.” We can and must do both. But with Netanyahu and Trump in charge, real peace feels deliberately sabotaged. This isn’t strength. It’s ego, escalation, and political theater with lives on the line.

      • And Hamas and Hezbellolah are innocent terrorist groups that love civil rights, equality for women, and just pat dissenters on the back and take them out to dinner. And those rockets and attacks they launch into Israel are just stray fireworks and people that got lost. Is that what you believe?
