Several Arizona Democratic leaders and candidates have voiced their views on Donald Trumps Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court.
They all shared similar concerns about what will happen to American Society, the health care system, and basic women and civil rights if she is confirmed during the rushed hypocritical Senate Republican power play following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero issued a statement that read:

“With this nomination, Trump has made it clear of his intentions to nominate a far-right judge that will fulfill his political agenda of overturning Roe v. Wade and striking down the Affordable Care Act, which has protected millions with pre-existing conditions.”
Legislative District 30 State Representative Raquel Teran, in a press conference at the State Capitol yesterday (Please click on the link to the video here)sponsored by the Arizona Alliance for Retired Persons, also expressed misgivings about Coney Barrett’s nomination, telling the people:

“The loss of the Affordable Care Act (if Coney Barrett rules against it) would deeply hurt our district…Now President Trump is trying to take us in the wrong direction with a rushed Supreme Court Nomination. All the gains that we have made on health care can be reversed in just a couple of months when the California versus Texas goes to the Supreme Court if President Trump is allowed to install his new justice and stack the courts against health care.”
Delina DiSanto, the Democratic Nominee in Arizona Congressional House District Four, wrote:

“It was a very sad day on the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and it is still hard to talk about it. The GOP talks about being Christian, however, their words and actions are the opposite. They are selfish and their vain glory gets in the way of doing something for their country, for their constituents. They are not listening to their needs. They feel superior to their constituents all while their constituents and communities are being harmed, struggling, fearful, and angry. They should be sowing unity and abandoning rivalry or partisanship.”
“They should wait until the election of the next president to choose a new Justice, but their greed stands in the way. Republicans want a more conservative Supreme Court which will hurt Americans with pre-existing conditions, repeal ACA, privatize Medicare and Social Security, increase drug costs, equality for women and LGBTQ, and repeal Roe vs Wade. Our rights are at stake. The long road to the progress we have now will be lost. But Republicans are playing to Trump and corporations to line their pockets and ego. My opponent, Representative Paul Gosar has been pushing to select a new Justice from day one. His ambition to be subservient to Trump and his selfish ambition is hurting Congressional District Four, our state, and the nation.”
Maricopa County Attorney Democratic Nominee Julie Gunnige, who attended Notre Dame University while Judge Coney Barrett was a lecturer there, issued a statement on social media which partially stated via Twitter:
Make no mistake about it: Judge Amy Coney Barrett is an extremist pick. Her record on reproductive rights, coverage for preexisting conditions, LGBTQ+ rights, and the dignity of work is abysmal.

Our next Supreme Court Justice should be appointed after the voters have their say in free and fair elections in 38 days.

Legislative District Eight House Democratic Nominee Sharon Girard, a Physicians Assistant, relayed:

“Before the pandemic struck, 750,000 Arizonans had no health insurance. Due to layoffs and lost jobs, many more have since joined these ranks and the number now stands at 822,527. Sadly, Arizona also has the third highest rate of uninsured children in the country. A report from one year ago put that number at 146,000. Too many children who can’t see a doctor when they are sick. Too many children whose families could be on the brink of bankruptcy should they have a severe accident or illness. Due to the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, there may soon be a newly appointed judge to the court. This is a critical issue because healthcare is on the line. If the Trump administration has its way they will invalidate the Affordable Care Act and millions more will become uninsured. Insurance companies will go back to excluding people of all ages due to preexisting conditions. Seven million more Americans will be unable to qualify for care because they will have had Covid-19. This will become another preexisting condition. Even those who had an asymptomatic case will find themselves uninsurable. Did you know that the Arizona State legislature can be of help to these people? They can expand KidsCare, our state health program for children. They can help provide other avenues of insurance for those unable to access insurance if they lose their jobs. They can help bridge these gaps. That legislation is not in force yet, but it could be. To do so we must elect legislators who care about healthcare and want to make sure everyone has access to the care they need and can afford. Should the ACA be repealed we must find ways to help people in Arizona. We can do this if we have the will and collaborate to get good legislation done. Our country needs universal healthcare. But until that day we must do all we can for the people of Arizona. Healthcare is a human right.”
Health Care, like Ms. Girard said, is a human right. So are all the rights given to women, workers, Blacks, Latinos, Native Americans, Asians, and members of the LGBTQ Community over the last century.
Make sure Republicans do not create a Conservative Majority that will endeavor to take some, if not all, of those rights away.
