Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes has strong words for Fox News and former Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich with regard to their enabling and catering to the MAGA world and their reliance on the repeatedly debunked Big Lie of election fraud during the 2020 Presidential elections.
In an interview on February 17, 2023, the Secretary appeared on MSNBC and advised after the revelation that the powers at be at FOX News openly supported the notions of Election Fraud when knowing it was fecal matter, that:
“We’ve got to hold the folks who chose ratings over the Republic to account. We have to hold those politicians who know better to account. My successor in office (the Maricopa County Recorder,) Recorder Steven Richter mentioned his conversations with several members of his Republican Party who behind closed doors will…they know the big lie is not real like some of those FOX news people said in their writings. But they perpetuate it because they’re choosing again this crazy populism and that’s because they lack courage. They lack the leadership necessary to put the Republic over their own personal power; their own personal political calculus and that’s what’s a problem here. These folks that will call other people snowflakes; they are themselves afraid of reality and the truth and there needs to be a comeuppance within the Republican Party.”
Earlier today, the Secretary, without mentioning Mr. Brnovich’s name released a statement, strongly condemning the former Attorney General’s negligence and enabling of MAGA forces in his party by not releasing the public records of his own department’s investigation that showed no widespread election fraud in Arizona.
Current Attorney General Kris Mayes released those documents this morning.
In his statement, Secretary Fontes relayed:
“The public looks to its elected officials to pursue the interests of all Arizonans with integrity. I am deeply disappointed by the wasteful and pointless actions by a top law enforcement official who diverted thousands of hours of staff time to pursue unfounded allegations of election fraud.”
“Furthermore, I am astounded that the result of this costly investigation, which thoroughly debunked these claims, was kept from the taxpayers who paid the bill. Election workers throughout the state and the nation are facing threats coming from these unfounded allegations of fraud and they deserve an apology — especially coming from an official who swore to protect them. Whether or not I was right all along, vindication is not sweet when it comes at such a cost.”
The Secretary is right.
Those at FOX News who helped perpetuate this fraud and inadvertently endangered honest election workers should be brought to account. While none of the individuals who went along with this scam for the sake of ratings will likely resign, viewers can send a message by stopping to watch the fake, unfair, and unbalanced news channel.
For political opportunist and coward Mr. Brnovich, voters can continue to send him the message, like they did in last year’s Senate primary that he no longer needs to run for office again because his services (or rather lack of services) are no longer needed.
