The morning Star the day after the Supreme Court's SB1070 ruling should begin its coverage of the story with the SB 1070 ruling from the court. After that, cover the ramifications. But that's not how the Star handled it on the front page.
Brewer's spin of the news was, SB1070 triumphed in the courts, but now the federal government has retaliated by limiting enforcement. The Star agrees that's the news, not the actual ruling. "FED MOVES WILL LIMIT SB 1070 ENFORCEMENT" it screams in the huge headline. Brady McCombs' article begins, "Striking back swiftly and strongly to the Supreme Court's decision to uphold a key provision of Arizona's immigration enforcement law, Homeland Security said it will not send its officers . . ."
And the Howie Fischer article focuses on the the part the court upheld and how that meant "the justices specifically rejected arguments by the Obama administration, which sued the state in 2010 . . ."
Anyone picking up the paper who hadn't been following yesterday's news would get the spin, not the news. The first and second impression would be, SB1070 triumphed in the court, but Obama's anti-Arizona thugs are refusing to comply.
The front page is about as bad as it gets.

The summary of what was upheld is totally wrong. if we didn’t know it before, this is clear evidence that our press corps are just incapable of covering even the most marginally complex issues.
As I have said before, Brady McCombs should not be working as a political reporter and certainly not as a Supreme Court reporter. And Howard Fischer should retire after hawking Jan Brewer’s book “Scorpions for Breakfast for her for the past year. Howie’s infatuation with Brewer is nauseating.
