“GOT BEADS? Beading Divas to the Rescue need beads to continue our mission of fund-raising for animal rescues. When you donate beads during the Drive, please add your name, contact info, and name of a 501 c3 animal charity, rescue, or shelter.

The random drawing will be held on March 14 (you can bring beads on that day – see details below for location) and one lucky charity will be chosen to be our May 2015 bracelet fundraising recipient. On this day, we’ll also have refreshments and raffle prizes. 

The Random Drawing is free and open to the public. No tickets required.

A Different Kind of Fashion Show

The 12th Annual Möda Provŏcateūr, presented by Title Sponsor, FreedomSmoke International, and supported by Arizona Lottery and WABA Hair Supply is an event celebrating the best of Tucson style while raising funds for the programs and services of the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF). The Tucson Convention Center Grand Ballroom will be a perfect place to showcase salons including: Ahead of Style; Avalon for Hair, Skin & Nails; The Industry Hair Studio; Salon de Nouveau; Ulta; Toni & Guy; Twisted Salon; and Village Salon.

The evening will include performances from BreakOut Studios and Artifact Dance Project as well as winning fashions from “Project Möda”, an annual design contest that seeks out the best designers in Tucson and tasks them with creating edgy, avant-garde designs to be featured at the event.

Girls’ Day Festival at Yume Japanese Gardens

This festival will be on March 1st, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Children free when accompanied by an adult paying regular admission to the Gardens.

“Tucsonans will be able to share in the traditions of Japan with a celebration of the annual Japanese holiday Hinamatsuri, or Girls Day. Customarily held on March 3rd, this special day heralds the beginning of spring while wishing for the health and future happiness of girls with traditional hina doll displays, special foods, and activities.

The centerpiece of Girls Day is the large, five-tiered display of ornamental hina dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, and their court from the Heian period (9ththrough 12th centuries) when the custom of displaying dolls originated. Believing the dolls had the ability to contain evil spirits, straw hina dolls were set afloat down the river to the sea to carry bad spirits away, a tradition still practiced today.
